Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have caused quite the stir with their recent comments against IVF and non-traditional families in an interview with Italy's Panorma magazine. (Sample quote: "I call children of chemistry 'synthetic children.'") When Elton John brought the interview to light to American audiences, calling for a boycott of the Italian fashion house's products this past weekend, the tension between the design duo and their detractors seems to have reached a fever pitch.

After statements issued by the designers and by Dolce & Gabbana PR failed to placate — they've been more defensive than apologetic — the designers went on CNN, Wednesday, to clarify their views. "I support all the world," said Dolce, who'd made the "synthetic" comment. "Maybe he chose the wrong words," offered Gabbana, adding that his views differ from Dolce's. "I believe in vitro."

The interview is a little tough to follow due to the designers' tendency to talk over one another. But what they seem to be trying to get across is that, while they don't judge others, they were just expressing their personal points of view. Also, Dolce is an Elton John fan: "I don’t boycott Elton John; I love listening to Elton John."
