My colleagues (Lauren and Eliza, specifically) have been singing the praises of Everlane's wardrobe staples for quite some time now, but since I generally have bad luck with purchasing clothing online without trying it on first, I was hesitant to test out the goods for myself. That all changed when the retailer announced that it would be debuting its first-ever pants — in both a slim cut and a slouchy style — and I knew I had to take the plunge.

I'm a skinny jeans devotee, and although our casual work environment allows for this sort of dress, I've been on a rather lengthy hunt for a pair of smart, everyday trousers that are just the right mix of comfortable, professional and affordable. Trust me, this was not an easy thing to find, and the closest fast fashion pair I discovered came apart in the wash after a few months. As soon as I got the launch email, I took my own measurements and ordered Everlane's slim trousers in black. Honestly, I'm kicking myself for not buying multiples, as they sold out within days. The fit is just what I was looking for: they sit right at the waist, but the loose cut makes them cozy enough to wear all day. They're also really lightweight and are cropped right at the ankle, ideal for the warmer days ahead. I plan on wearing them all through the summer with flat sandals and a silk button down or tank top — a look that's great for both work and play.

Proving that I am not the only fan of Everlane's newest item, most sizes of the slim trousers are currently sold out (though the slouchy ones are still available), but the site plans to restock by April. Trust, my calendar is already marked.

Slim trouser in black or navy, $98, available Everlane.
