It's no secret that Marc Jacobs's eponymous label is undergoing a lot of change. In March, the company revealed, through WWD, that it would be discontinuing Marc by Marc Jacobs, and folding the contemporary collection into the Marc Jacobs main line. However, the roles of Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley, who, since 2013, have jointly headed up design for the off-shoot label, have remained uncertain.
On Wednesday, Hillier debuted a new collection of jewelry under her namesake line, which she originally launched in 2010. We noticed that the bio on her newly revamped website says Hillier is "currently Creative Director of Marc Jacobs contemporary line." Reps for both Hillier and Marc Jacobs confirmed that this is accurate, but did not comment on Bartley's role at the company.
The Hillier reboot comes about a week after Hillier and Bartley announced the launch of Hillier Bartley, a line of luxury ready-to-wear and accessories for women, set to hit stores this fall. The timing of these announcements — right after the Marc by Marc news — is interesting. It seems to suggest that, without Marc by Marc, Hillier (and Bartley, if she continues) will have less demanding roles at the company, freeing them to work on other projects — projects that can better express their personal points of view.
Hillier's adorable new collection of paperclip earrings, bunny necklaces and more is available to shop now, much of it at a lower price point than before, thanks to a switch from 18k to 14k gold. You can browse it below.
