Otis College of Art and Design invites applications for a full-time studio faculty appointment in the Fashion Design program. This position reports to the Chair of Fashion Design. The College does not grant faculty tenure; hence this is an annual full-time faculty appointment, subject to renewal based on an annual performance review.

Responsibilities: Teaching sophomore-level studio courses with extensive knowledge and ability to demonstrate flat pattern drafting, draping, sewing, and garment construction. An understanding of moderate fashion sportswear and dresses is essential. Must also work creatively and effectively with a diverse student body as part of a team of professional designers/educators.

This position requires full-time teaching responsibilities, and the mentoring of those students in assigned classes. The position also includes administrative duties pertaining to the successful running of a program. These include, but are not limited to: working with the department chair and assistant chair to help define the vision of the Fashion Department curriculum; writing syllabi and developing curricular materials; mentoring part- time faculty teaching within the Fashion Design program with regard to the responsibilities of monitoring attendance, documentation of student learning, and reporting of grades; the effective supervision of teaching assistants working for the program; regular monitoring of classroom studios and participation in classroom set- up; active participation in the governance of the Fashion Design department and of the College as a whole through student advisement, committee work, attendance at faculty meetings, and program assessment. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the department chair.

Qualifications: Teaching experience is required. A BFA in Fashion Design or a related field and industry experience is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach Sophomore Studio, extensive knowledge and ability to demonstrate flat pattern drafting, draping, sewing, and garment construction. An understanding of moderate fashion sportswear and dresses is essential. Ideal candidate will have evidence of at least 5 years college-level teaching experience in Fashion industry related classes in an accredited College. Strong interpersonal skills and administrative leadership skills demonstrating the candidate’s successful management of an academic program are required.
