Maybe only a Rivers can replace a Rivers.

E! announced on Tuesday that when "Fashion Police" returns August 31, Melissa Rivers will be stepping in front of the camera and into her late mother's shoes as co-host of the comedic fashion criticism show. Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski will continue their hosting duties, and each episode will also feature two rotating celebrity guests. Rivers will continue to serve as executive producer, as she has since the show's debut in 2010.

"Fashion Police" has been a mess since the iconic Joan Rivers passed away last September. George Kotsiopoulos was replaced by Goreski before the start of season five, and halfway through that season — in March — both Kelly Osbourne and Rivers's replacement, Kathy Griffin, quit. (Osbourne's departure was apparently triggered by some offensive remarks Rancic made about Zendaya Coleman at the Oscars a few weeks before.) The whole show was put on hiatus that same month.

If anyone can right the "Fashion Police" ship, it's Melissa Rivers.
