I don't often use the phrase "the one that got away" in reference to a fashion item, but I honestly felt that way when I missed the boat on Alexa Chung's first denim collaboration with AG this past winter. I mulled over the purchase of an adorable, A-line miniskirt with buttons down the front for too long, and by the time I was ready to pull the trigger, it was sold out everywhere — even in AG's brick-and-mortar stores.
Thankfully, the fashion gods — well, Chung and AG — have presented me with a second chance: The British style icon just released another collection with the brand, complete with a version of the very skirt I'd been lusting after. The wash is a bit darker this time (which makes sense, considering that fall is right around the corner), but the shape and retro vibe remain the same.
If I scoop up the high-waisted skirt right now, I can pair it with tanks, tees, sandals or white sneakers for the rest of the summer, but I know I'll turn to it just as often come autumn, opting for turtleneck sweaters on top, with tights and Chelsea boots underneath. Learn from my mistakes, friends: If you see a key piece that you can imagine styling a million different ways (and through different seasons), don't let it pass you by. Things like this don't often come around twice.
