Full disclosure: Each Friday, for our weekly best dressed roundups, we earnestly try to identify a trend or theme amongst the ladies chosen, which is surprisingly easy to do... usually. This week, though, I was having a tough time — until I noticed almost every famous female I'd chosen, from Michelle Obama to Olivia Palermo, was wearing either red, white, blue or a combination thereof.

Sure, it could be a coincidence, or maybe stylists stocked up on samples in that color palette for this part of the year. (The fourth of July was this past Saturday, in case you already forgot.)

There was Obama's dainty, all-American Michael Kors dress, Gwyneth Paltrow's bold Valentino gown, Elle Fanning's absolutely darling frosty blue Prada frock — and even French actress Melanie Laurent got in on the action with a red Tory Burch jumpsuit. Emma Stone brought the white in the form of a Giambattista Valli dress (and her alabaster skin). Lupita Nyong'o, for her part, was the human equivalent of fireworks in a sparkling Prada gown.
