It's the shoe designer's first standalone handbag line.

In all his 40-plus years in business, Manolo Blahnik has given himself one job, and one job only: to create beautiful, sophisticated and, oh so fortunately, Carrie Bradshaw-endorsed shoes. While competitors ranging from Christian Louboutin to Stuart Weitzman have since expanded to include multiple categories like handbags and nail polish, Blahnik, now 72, has so far declined to build out a full leather goods business.

But, it's never too late to try something new. On Monday, Blahnik announced that he will soon launch a capsule collection of six evening clutches to be sold at his New York City boutique. As his first standalone line of handbags, ever, each bejeweled minaudière is inspired by Blahnik's more ornamental shoes — including the crystal-embellished Hangisi pump of "Sex and the City" movie acclaim. As such, their construction is opulent with satins, crepe de chine silks, leather interiors and an abundance of Swarovski crystals.

In a release, Blahnik described the aspirational nature of the range:

Every woman needs a jewel. Something very special and beautiful. There is nothing more stunning than a feminine hand holding a gem-like object.

With prices ranging from $1,725 to $1,925, the clutches make his signature heels and flats look inexpensive by comparison.
