With Instagram being one of the chief avenues for modeling agencies to find new talent these days, it seemed only natural when W magazine and IMG (specifically, its development division and @WeLoveYourGenes account) teamed up on an Instagram-led model search this spring. After sorting through the 1,200 entries, one young woman emerged victorious, and Alexis Primous is now making her editorial debut in W's Sept. issue, styled by Edward Enninful and shot by Mario Sorrenti — both of whom played a large role in selecting her from the crowd of hopefuls.
Primous, a 20-year-old Florida native, has an eight-page spread in the issue, wearing pieces by Dior, Chloé, Miu Miu and more. Before entering (and winning) the contest, the industry hopeful was diligent about posting captivating selfies on her Instagram page. Though many of her photos suggest that she's just an everyday college student (go Gators!), she certainly doesn't look like one, and the professionalism she exhibited on set proved that she's serious about taking her career to the next level.
"Alexis was incredibly focused — I loved her energy, her excitement, and her enthusiasm in channeling each look," Enninful, who is on vacation, told Fashionista over email. "She is very beautiful and the way she expresses it is effortless, with confidence and grace. I was impressed by her ability to convey a range of attitudes. To produce eight pictures and have each one stand out in a different way is not easy, especially for a model on her first-ever fashion shoot, so I have no doubt that Alexis will go on to be a star."
You can see Primous's full spread over at W's website, and we suggest keeping your eyes peeled for her during Fashion Month. Considering her new contract with IMG (and the seal of approval from industry bigwigs Enninful and Sorrenti), this new face will likely cause more than just a bit of buzz this season.
