Whether you've spent the last few months sunning yourself in the Maldives or cooped up in a sterile, air-conditioned office, I think we can all agree that it's been one hell of a long summer. PETA and Hermès are now, oddly, quasi-business partners. Kylie Jenner turned 18, entering legal adulthood with the help of a $320,000 Ferrari. Alexander Wang and Balenciaga broke up. See? What a long, strange trip it's been.

While bright prints and sexy slits ordinarily take up residence on the summer red carpets, this week was quite the opposite. Perhaps celebrities are tuckered out — which might explain why actresses like Lizzy Caplan, Dakota Johnson and Alicia Vikander stuck with dark, nearly colorless frocks with sleek, sexy silhouettes. A special shout-out to Kristen Stewart and her stylist Tara Swennen, who've nailed this whole "American Ultra" publicity tour with a slew of menswear-inspired minidresses.
