When the dismantling of Marc by Marc Jacobs was announced in March, its London-based Creative Directors Luella Bartley and Katie Hillier already had another project up their sleeves: Hillier Bartley, a new luxury label that is wholly theirs.
Shown (very) quietly to select buyers in February, the debut collection has finally been revealed, first via an editorial in Vogue and on Matchesfashion.com, where you can only browse the collection for now — it won't be available for purchase until Sept. 2. The full lookbook debuts exclusively here.
As promised, the line is all about luxe fabrics and simple English tailoring, filled with great trousers, coats, shirts and jackets. But it still feels distinctive thanks to touches of the irreverent, quirky vibe both designers have become known for — seen in details like layers of colorful fringe on a wool jacket and a dramatic tasseled neck tie on a pink gown. Hillier's signature bunny motif also made it into the collection in the form of some adorable clutches. Though, for those who want something a little more timeless for their money, there are a number of classic-looking shoulder bags.
Price-wise, it's a true luxury line, ranging from $519 for "mum high waist" jeans (which I desperately want), to $2,848 for an ankle-length coat. It's a little out of most price ranges, but these feel like true investment pieces, many of which have the must-have quality that those with the means will likely be unable to resist.
