In January 1990, Vogue UK revealed one of its most iconic covers to date: photographed by Peter Lindbergh in black-and-white, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and Tatjana Patitz formally ushered in the era of the '90s supermodel. Together, the fivesome — and a few others —became the faces of fashion for the decade and set an example for today's social media-driven "Instagirls."
While the original supes haven't faded from public memory, it's not every day that a company of them reconvene to do what they do best. Lindbergh brought six of the most influential models back together in front of the lens for a shoot appropriately titled "The Reunion." And as part of its "Director's Cut" series, online video channel Nowness debuted a behind-the-scenes video from it.
In the short film, we see Crawford, Patitz, Eva Herzigova, Nadja Auermann, Helena Christensen and Karen Alexander reminiscing with each other while playfully posing for Lindbergh in chunky knits, and nailing that nostalgia factor in black and white. "The thing that makes working with Peter memorable is his energy," Crawford voiced off-camera. "He loves women and that really comes across; he really sees the beauty in a mature woman."
