For being such a beautiful, charismatic and delightful 21-year-old, Harry Styles is often absent from the busy rock star party circuit. As the long-appointed cult leader of One Direction, Styles has made a concerted effort to lay low in the great, wide valley of black-and-white Instagram filters. It's fun, then, when we get to see this glimmering, hair-flipping unicorn — fine, "human" — publicly step out somewhere beyond a concert stage, wearing anything but his now-signature uniform of crotch-compact skinny jeans and shapeless black T-shirts.
On Monday evening, Styles did just that, bringing himself — and at once, ourselves — back to sartorial life in a fantastic Gucci suit at Love Magazine's London Fashion Week party. With its eccentric print and slim-fitting silhouette, the jacket-and-trouser set looked as if it had been designed with Styles himself in mind. In it, he became a phoenix draped in silk, a reincarnation of Mick Jagger circa "Sticky Fingers" or — gasp! — a committed boy-bander on the eve of an explosive solo career. (The latter, of course, remains speculative.) Gucci can do that to a person.
We at Fashionista haven't kept our fondness for Gucci's new Creative Director Alessandro Michele under wraps, giving the label's fall 2015 ads — his first for the fashion house — a rave review. As Michele's Gucci continues to build upon its newly minted image of vintage flair and romance, Styles is a perfect iteration of the Italian brand's ideal client. Who better to usher in Gucci's new era than Styles, who is easily the most riveting of his remaining bandmates? His hair is literally full of secrets.
