New York Fashion Week got off to a humid start on Thursday with on-and-off rain showers and the kind of moisture-laden air from which no hair is immune. But the well-heeled showgoers' spirits were not dampened. The theme of the day was stripes — colorful, classic, contrasting and refreshingly simple in their optimism. Bold combinations of pattern were also a trend, and a few smart people even wore trench coats to stay dry. See, who said street style stars weren't practical dressers? Alexander Wang lace-up boots are actually quite rainproof.
