The fashion industry has long idolized youth, and every year, a new class of creative, beautiful and just plain cool youngsters descends upon the scene, ready to leave their mark. In the age of Instagram fame and Internet socializing, it's much easier for teens to have their voices heard, to get noticed by older, more established talents in their fields, and to share their ideas with both friends and strangers. (A far cry from the LiveJournal and MySpace options we had in my school days.) Some may be the visionaries of the future; others might just be really photogenic or have great individual style. But one thing is certain: the number of teenagers running around Fashion Month is making this editor feel super old.
If you're interested in familiarizing yourself with the next generation of fashion stars, read on for our handy primer on the Cool Teens to know.
Bella Hadid, 18, is having an incredible breakout season, walking for designers like Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Moschino and Giles — while still maintaining enough energy to hit all of the biggest parties and a date night or two with her beau The Weeknd.
This recent high school graduate entered the New York modeling world with a sick side-shave and a perfect pout, so it's no surprise that she made her debut as a Versace exclusive in Milan.
One of the more badass (and, let's be honest, bitchy-looking) celebrity offspring on the scene right now, the 18-year-old daughter of Stephen Baldwin seems to be everywhere at once — from the runways at Tommy Hilfiger and Philipp Plein to the chicest dinner parties in Paris.
After making her debut last season at Alexander Wang (and chopping off more of her already-short hair for his 10th anniversary show), the 17-year-old is picking up major steam in her modeling career, walking for Lanvin, Versace, Fendi, Moschino and many more big-name designers for spring 2016.
Jaden and Willow Smith
These teenage siblings are carving out very unique paths for themselves in both the music and fashion industries, and each one has a personal style that is unlike anyone else around — especially among their young peers. Jaden's been all over Fashion Month, from Kanye West's show for Adidas to Carine Roitfeld's "Icons" party with Harper's Bazaar (and his sister Willow appeared in the portfolio for which the party was thrown), and it's clear that many older, wiser industry vets look to them both as visionaries.
Kylie Jenner is today's ultimate teen icon. A social media star who lives for (and makes bank on) the public's attention, she has youngsters hanging on her every word — and Snapchat post — for beauty, fashion, music and general lifestyle inspiration. Plus, out of all of her famous sisters, she has the most distinct personality — something she's grown into in her teenage years.
This impossibly beautiful 16-year-old has a fabulous pedigree — she's the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis — and that, paired with her hilarious Instagram persona, has earned her the attention of major fashion players, most notably Karl Lagerfeld. Could she walk in the label's spring 2016 show in Paris this coming week? Fingers crossed.
Lucky Blue and Pyper America Smith
These teen model siblings are both having a "moment" — and it's adorable that they're able to share the spotlight together. Pyper America, 18, has walked for Armani, Moschino, Cushnie et Ochs and Philipp Plein this season, and is already an editorial favorite. Her 16-year-old brother, Lucky Blue, is a bona fide superstar, and is ranked on Models.com's list of 50 top male models. The future's looking very bright for these two.
This unfairly attractive model-slash-stylist may have just graduated from high school, but he's already a main fixture on the fashion scene — specifically with the crew surrounding Off-White's Virgil Abloh and the man himself, Kanye West. (Sabbat was a model in the shows for both Yeezy Season One and Two.) Plus, he's a street style star in the making, and was often shot around New York Fashion Week wearing a leather jacket with no shirt underneath.
We love 18-year-old Molly Bair for myriad reasons, but mostly because she embraces her inner weirdness (check out her Instagram for proof). Her look is incredibly unique as well, and it's a delight to see her stomp down the runway in all of her six-foot glory.
This native New Yorker (and recent high school grad) is having quite the season, walking for Alexander Wang, Chloé, Burberry, Fendi, Calvin Klein and many more. So, clearly we're not the only ones who have fallen for her look.
This 17-year-old caught our eye after Guido Palau cut her hair into a bowl cut for her debut at Alexander Wang, and since then, we've fallen in love with her over and over again — at Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Prada and Versace. We're willing to bet her face will be all over come campaign season.
This adorable 16-year-old is already a runway pro (Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.), and unlike most of her model peers, she always has a sweet smile as she walks. Awww.
