I am not immune to silly impulse purchases during Fashion Month, and after I spotted Bryan Yambao (aka Bryanboy) wearing the gray wool Marni fussbett sandals I'd talked myself out of a few weeks earlier, I logged on to Farfetch and shipped them straight to my Airbnb in London.

Solid and comfortable with their molded insoles, I liked them almost immediately, but I had serious doubts about the practicality of wool sandals. (Ditto the shearling-lined Birkenstocks I considered last fall.) I certainly wouldn't be able to wear them in winter and summer, and frankly, I wasn't even sure if they were going to hold up that well to the cooling fall temperatures in Europe.

But the sandals were just right for the 50-65-degree temps; the warmth of the wool more than counterbalanced the coolness of the exposed parts of my feet, and my aching soles felt comfortably cradled in their wooly beds. And once the weather gets truly cold? That's when I'll take another cue from Bryan and break out the black socks.
