This week on the red carpet, celebrities brought a much-needed respite from the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in the form of smart suiting and sleek, understated dresses.

At LACMA's Art and Film Gala, German actress Diane Kruger appeared in a blue, architectural Monique Lhuillier two-toned bandeau top and pants that was every bit as glamorous as a gown, but far edgier. In a similar vein, "Babylon" star Brit Marling appeared at the same event in a pink suit from Gucci, one of the event's lead sponsors.

Later in the week, Oscar-winning actress (and Fashionista red carpet favorite) Cate Blanchett co-hosted a Net-a-Porter dinner at LA's Chateau Marmont in a black Alexander Wang lounge suit with Gianvitto Rossi shoes to match. And then there was Jennifer Lawrence, who with the help of styling duo Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson, upped the glamour in a Ralph Lauren Collection dress at the "Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2" premiere in Madrid.
