After taking the larger part of this year's awards season off, Jennifer Lawrence has slipped out of her prized sweatpants and into couture for her fourth annual (and final) "The Hunger Games" publicity tour, this time for "Mockingjay - Part 2." With the film's premiere set for Nov. 20, the Oscar-winning goofball now has two-and-a-half weeks of red carpets, interviews and press conferences for which to dress — most of which, as per a $15-million contract, will be done with Dior's help.
For the "Mockingjay - Part 2" world premiere in Berlin on Wednesday, Lawrence kicked off the sartorial festivities in a plum-colored Dior gown with super-deep neckline and cutaway sleeves. Lawrence is, of course, beautiful. That I did not have to physically lift my jaw from the floor after seeing pictures from this red carpet, however, is confusing, and I haven't yet been able to pinpoint why.
Perhaps it's because of the somewhat matronly nature of the gown's silhouette, which was surely intended to showcase Lawrence's exceptional body and curves. Perhaps it's because of the garment's aforementioned sleeves, which cloak her arms in heavy, glossy fabric when there is already quite a lot of coverage, even with the plunging neckline. Perhaps it's just because the color is so severe. I, for one, would have loved to see her something a bit less stately for her big return to the red carpet — but as will be the case until Lawrence's contract with Dior expires in 2017, there will be many more opportunities to blow us out of the water as the "Mockingjay - Part 2" press tour continues.
She did do this, however:
Welcome back, J-Law. Welcome back.
