To the womenswear crowd at least, actor Paul Bettany's most obvious overlap with the fashion industry is his marriage to Jennifer Connelly, who's been playing muse to Nicolas Ghesquière since the designer's days at Balenciaga. The guy works a pretty low-key red carpet profile, too, so it's okay if you haven't noticed that the his style is, in fact, top notch.
The dude's superior taste was on display at the New York premiere of "In the Heart of the Sea" on Monday, to which he wore a suit with a chic little navy and white polka dot scarf tied around his neck — a favorite styling move inspired by Mick Jagger, he told Details last month. Frankly, it works. Bettany clearly understands the power of restraint in accessorizing, airing some flair while keeping the full look tight. Nowhere has he done this better than at the New York premiere of "Shelter" last month. See below.
Has anyone so groovy ever had his sartorial shit so together? I seriously doubt it. If you'll just keep scrolling now, we'll move on to "APC Bettany," a simpler look marked by an anonymous navy coat and a camel crew neck sweater.
It's very good. And not to push our luck here, but this man is even capable of pulling off denim on denim. Seriously.
Hats off to you, Mr. Bettany.
