Dressing for winter can easily result in looking like the little brother from "A Christmas Story." But leave it to style guru Alexa Chung to put together an outfit that not only helps you forget about the freezing outdoors, but also demonstrates how to avoid looking like a human pillow.

According to Chung, who braved the New York City cold on Tuesday, it's all about adding together different textures. Pile a shearling-and-leather coat (hers is Acne) over your favorite fisherman-style sweater for ultimate warmth. Then, play with proportion by juxtaposing the layered look you have on top with sleek skinny jeans and ankle boots down below. Finally, add on your go-to winter accessories, such as Chung's monogrammed scarf by Burberry and chunky, marled knit beanie. When it comes to gloves, Chung opted out of the high-fashion variety and instead went for a $15 fleece pair by the outdoor gear brand Helly Hansen. Voila! You're ready to take on Winter Storm Jonas.
