Confession: I really like Mansur Gavriel's bucket bags, and have ever since they came out. I'd say they're very in line with my #aesthetic. But, I've always been reluctant — unable, in many cases — to buy things that everyone around me had; even in middle school I would stop wearing something if I saw that a classmate had it, even if I liked it. That complex, coupled with my landlord's expectation that I pay him rent every month, has prevented me from getting a Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. Poor me, right?
Ever since that bag became an overnight sensation, other brands have been quick to produce their own versions of bucket bags. And, to me, not one has felt quite as original and special as J.W Anderson's. (Yes, he makes cute bags for his own line in addition to Loewe.) It's so simple, and yet, so expensive — quite a bit more than a Mansur, in fact. Still, I'm obsessed with it for its simplicity, circularity and functionality: It has a detachable shoulder strap in addition to the handle, and an internal compartment with a drawstring closure. It somehow makes a statement while also being that perfectly quiet and practical bag to wear every day. Someone want to loan me $1,000 so I can buy it? Thanks.
J.W. Anderson black leather bucket bag, $1,215, available at Ssense.
