The Daily Front Row's website Fashion Week Daily sent Twitter into a slight panic on Monday afternoon after stirring the rumor that Hedi Slimane departed from Saint Laurent due to creative differences. Fashionista reached out to the brand's U.S. PR team, which confirmed that Slimane has not left the label.
Slimane's alleged exit was received with a mix of disbelief and enthusiasm. The former because it's a late afternoon on a Monday at the start of a post-holiday work week, and enthusiasm because of the steady negative response towards Slimane and his collections since he took on the Parisian fashion house's top role three years ago. (Cathy Horyn's view on the man behind the brand is an example.) There's also the undeniable fact that under Slimane's creative direction, Saint Laurent's sales have been on the up and up — its most recent quarter reports are the highest to date. Plus, the push for the "grunge tiara" is strong for next spring.
We also reached out to a Saint Laurent representative in Paris, who provided the comment: "Following the recent [designer] departures, [there] have been many rumors and speculations. This is clearly one more!"
