On Wednesday evening, designers and members of the fashion community gathered at the New Museum for the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards nominee announcement. The annual awards ceremony will take place on June 6 at the Hammerstein Ballroom, a new venue, and will be a seated dinner instead of the stadium seating of years past. This year will also mark CFDA President and CEO Steven Kolb's 10th anniversary with the organization.
Predictably, the nominees — announced by CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg and Nadja Swarovski — include a lot of unsurprising names. For Womenswear Designer of the Year: Joseph Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, and (last year's winners) Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen of The Row. (Quite a few sisters, von Furstenberg noted.) Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, Tim Coppens and Todd Snyder were nominated in the menswear category. First-time nominees include Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia of Monse and Brandon Maxwell (a 2016 LVMH Prize Finalist) for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear.
This year, the late David Bowie will also be honored with the Tribute Award at the seated dinner event, while Gucci's Alessandro Michele will be given the International Award.
The only remaining mysteries — aside from who ultimately wins? Who will take home the style icon award, and who this year's host will be. Take a look below for the rest of the nominees.
