Let me begin this post by saying that I'm a very happy New Yorker. Many people dream of living here, and don't get me wrong: It's awesome, but I'm very certain that the city that holds my heart will always be Tokyo. The metropolis has a killer fashion and beauty scene, some really weird TV shows and enough sushi for me to eat it on a daily basis (which I've actually done). And while "I Heart New York" paraphernalia is a far cry from chic, this sweatshirt manages to show off city pride without being touristy.
Since my father and his family grew up in Tokyo — my grandmother has since relocated to the suburbs — growing up, I spent all my summers in Japan. When I hit my teen years, I got my parents' permission to explore the city on my own, and every year after that, I'd always have the best time revisiting my favorite Tokyo neighborhoods. But as I currently call the East Coast home, I've been looking for an easy sweatshirt to live in during the weekends as the weather cools down. This Assembly version looks as cozy as it is stylish, and the upside-down mirror-image text is whimsical and fun ― just like the the city itself. So even though I could pen a million love letters to my (very far away) home away from home, what better way to show my love than to literally wear it on my sleeve? (Okay, I guess "torso" would be slightly more accurate, but I think you get the point.)
