Frank Ocean, the enigmatic, elusive persona whose long periods of absence from the public eye send hysterical waves of panic across the internet, isn't one to frequently walk red carpets or attend fancy parties. Sure, he recently released his new album, "Blonde," and starred in the fall 2016 Calvin Klein ad campaign — and made it out to Paris to sit front row at his friend Virgil Abloh's spring 2017 show for Off-White — but it's been a while since we've seen him all done up in black tie-garb. (The infamous Met Gala back in 2013, perhaps?)
Well, on Tuesday night, Ocean attended the White House State Dinner — the final one hosted by the Obamas — wearing a crisp white shirt, a navy coat and pleated pants, looking like a million bucks. But, the real icing on the cake (besides the fact that he had his beautiful mother, Katonya Breaux, on his arm as his date), was that he paired his eveningwear with a fresh pair of slip-on checkered Vans. The kind that you can find at your local mall for about $50 right now, and that you most definitely had in your closet at some point in high school. We always knew Ocean was a legend, but it never hurts to have more proof.
