Fantasy Dressing the Met Ball Guests

The Met Ball is like the Oscars for the fashion industry: all the best people in all the best dresses.

This year’s theme, punk, presents an interesting conundrum: will people go all out, liberty spikes and Givenchy nose rings and all, or just throw some studs on a Chanel suit and call it pseudo-punk?

We’re hoping for the former, and so in the spirit of going the distance, we’ve picked out our favorite punk fashions and paired them with Met Ball regulars like Anna Wintour and Julianne Moore and some fantasy guests (Bjork, anyone?).

So a couple of weekends ago, I went on a press trip to Oz.

In addition to attending a 3-D screening of Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful (which I highly recommend seeing–it’s awesome) and sitting mere feet away from stars including James Franco and Michelle Williams at a press conference, I got to check out a selection of HSN’s huge collection done in collaboration with Disney.

Elle Fanning covers New York Magazine‘s spring fashion issue looking as sweet as a cupcake. Literally. Her hair is adorned with cake icing flowers, and the sugary theme continues in her super cute spring fashion spread. (Think eyelid cupcake sprinkles.) We love it.

Fanning also proves that she’s still one of the coolest teenagers on the planet, who, at the tender age of 14, has a very developed sense of what she does and doesn’t like fashion-wise.
