Clearly we’re a little influenced by the Met Ball’s punk theme this May, though we’re planning to balance that out with a classic cobalt Madewell purse and a dream trip to the Outer Banks courtesy of Purple Diary.

Pared down. Stripes. Mod. Black and white. No pants. Whereas last season Marc Jacobs dazzled with an elaborate Rachel Feinstein-designed set and a pilgrims-meets-Dr. Suess-meets Jamiroquai collection, for spring 2013 he stripped it down. He even stripped the pants off his models in several instances.
We are voting for this collection as one of the best Alexander Wang’s done in several seasons. He took leather garments, seemingly cut them in many pieces, then sewed the pieces loosely back together with some sort of magical invisible thread that left strips of skin peeking through–the line notes kept referring to it as a “suspended” detail. It was a technique that almost made the leather flowy; it moved in a way that leather usually doesn’t. Everything was black and white, with the occasional nude tone thrown in. White pieces were crisp and looked clinical, like lab coats. Tanks that were designed like one giant, twisted cable knit were striking, especially look 14 as worn by Jourdan Dunn. For the finale, a group of platinum-coiffed models all in white stood still in the middle of the room. The lights went down and then their outfits–swear to god–glowed in the dark.
Last year, Lanvin stumbled upon viral success with its fall 2011 campaign video featuring models Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmermann dancing to Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me.” Designer Alber Elbaz even joined in. So, can you guess what our favorite part of last night’s Olympics closing ceremonies was? While there ended up being plenty of fashion-related topics to discuss from the actual games, nothing compared to this. Aside from that epic Spice Girls reunion (more on that later), we pretty much died when Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Stella Read more →
In case you missed it, earlier this week comedian Daniel Tosh told an audience member that it would be funny if she got raped “by like, five guys” after she interrupted the comedian’s set to tell him that the rape jokes he was already making weren’t actually funny. But, as comedians seem to forget, what happens in the comedy club doesn’t always stay in the comedy club, and the woman’s blog post about the incident quickly went viral, with websites like Jezebel picking up the story. While some comedians have stepped up to Tosh’s defense, the incident mostly drew the ire of the public at large. Even fashion people like Karen Elson took note. The model voiced her reaction on Twitter saying, “Daniel Tosh didn’t get the memo that it [rape] never was and never will be funny.”
Apparently, Tosh has some rabid fans, because within hours Elson received a number of pretty nasty responses. An example? “@KarenElson_ Needs to be raped, she might lighten up after getting some for once.”
