Rachel Comey Resort 2013: Clothes for a Vacation-Free Resort Season

Rachel Comey Resort 2013: Clothes for a Vacation-Free Resort Season

Rachel Comey is pretty much the official outfitter of downtown New York cool girls–or, really cool girls everywhere. So, naturally, we were pretty excited to visit the brand’s showroom to check what was in store for Resort 2013.

We were greeted by an adorably pregnant Comey (she’s due in September), who is without a doubt, one of the best dressed pregnant ladies we’ve ever met. “I find myself still being able to wear my [line],” she said with a laugh. “I’m like, who knew I designed maternity also!”

Of course, Comey was only joking (though a cool maternity line is actually not a bad idea!)–but there is something special and effortless about a collection looking just as cool on a six-months pregnant woman as on a five-foot-eleven model. And that’s precisely what we love about the brand.

Carven Time Travels To Swinging London for Resort, Unveils New Collaboration

We’ve yet to walk away from seeing a Carven collection without wanting everything. Resort 2012 is no exception. Designer Guillaume Henri told us the playful, colorful collection was inspired by Peter Schlesinger’s A Checkered Past, a photo book documenting the ’60s and ’70s in London (which we now want–you can buy it here). “The photos Read more →

The 15 Most Stylish Music Videos of 2011

The 15 Most Stylish Music Videos of 2011

Music—especially the men and women who make it—has served as inspiration in the fashion world for decades, and this year we felt it more than ever.

Everywhere we turned, musical muses were popping up in the front rows of runway shows (in some cases, even on the runway), as well as on magazine covers month after month. The fascination fashion has with music must go both ways, because artists have recently stepped up their style game in their music videos as well, wearing pieces from the world’s most prestigious fashion houses and custom couture creations that would make even the most snobbish of editors drool.

The 2011 crop of music videos featured everything from ’90s supermodels to rampant fashion photography references, and we’ve picked the 15 videos that we believe really stood out in the style department. Which one did you watch on repeat?

For the first time in two years, V magazine is featuring actual models instead of celebrities on its next edition, which hits newsstands on November 8. Miu Miu Taps a 34-Year Old Modeling Vet to Replace 14-Year-Old Hailee Steinfeld

Miu Miu’s fall 2011 ad campaign starring 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld were not entirely well-received. Even though we thought the Bruce Weber-lensed ads were tasteful and age-appropriate, many criticized Miu Miu for using a model that the brand’s adult money-spending customers can’t relate to. An image from the Miu Miu’s Resort 2012 campaign has just been Read more →

Here Are Some of the Designer Looks That May Have Inspired Kanye West’s Collection

Kanye West’s Spring 2012 collection has already been criticized for many things, one of them being a lack of originality. One of the first tweets from inside the exclusive Paris show was from Jessica Michault (of the Times and International Herald Tribune) who said, “I think that every one of the designers sitting in the front row at Kanye West must have had a deja vue moment at some point during the show.” Ouch. Though, Michault does have a point.

From Alexander Wang to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen to Azzedine Alaia, the designers West chose to have in his front row, it seemed, were ones he is inspired by. So we dug up past looks–mostly fall 2011–from those designers, plus a couple of others, that looked eerily similar to the ones West showed on saturday. Click through and tell us if you agree.

Issey Miyake Resort 2012: Delightfully On-Trend

Issey Miyake Resort 2012: Delightfully On-Trend

When we think of Issey Miyake, we don’t necessarily think trendy. Or hip. Or cool. Yet the brand’s resort collection for 2012 is all of those things, and much more.

Not only are we obsessed with the colors–plenty of pastels and summery bolds–but we’re also keen on the silhouettes, from the oversize shirt dresses to the ballerina frocks. And the patterned tights were just beyond. It was all very on-brand, without being boring.

Surely this has something to do with the appointment of a new creative director; Yoshiyuki Miyamae was promoted in May to the position. But it’s also that Miyake’s aesthetic–much like that of Dries Van Noten and Kenzo–is very right now. So while these labels always do good work, they currently happen to be tapping into something greater.
