Everything You Need to Know About Tonight’s CFDA Awards
A Handy Primer

Everything You Need to Know About Tonight’s CFDA Awards

The 2013 CFDA awards, fashion’s Oscars if you will, will be handed out in mere hours. The industry has been gathering to recognize and honor its leading talents since 1981.

A lot has changed since the early years of the awards. What was once a small intimate industry event is now a widely covered celebrity event. “I think it reflects a broader shift over the last few years where fashion has become more and more popular,” Style.com’s editor in chief Dirk Standen told us. “The internet has had a lot to do with that. It’s entertainment on a par with movies and music.”

So to prep you for tonight’s awards we’ve assembled this handy primer. In it you’ll find the complete list of nominees, our predictions on who will take home the big prizes, and all the celebrity presenters and attendees slated to show up.

Peter Lindbergh Shoots the CFDA Journal, Pregnant Kim Kardashian Gets Sculpted Naked, and Amanda Bynes Takes On Chrissy Teigen

David, The Thinker, and now… Kim Kardashian? The reality TV star’s pregnant bod will be immortalized into a nude statue entitled “L.A. Fertility” by artist Daniel Edwards. Visitors will be allowed to rub the statue’s belly for good luck (obviously) during its exhibition at L.A.’s LAB ART Gallery on June 5th. {Refinery29}

Well that was fast. Anne Hathaway has ditched her three weeks-young blonde ‘do in favor of some more natural brunette tresses. {Grazia}

It’s celebrity Twitter war time! After tweeting advice to Amanda Bynes’s fans to ignore the troubled actress’s “scary and poor behavior,” Chrissy Teigen received a full-on lashing from Bynes, calling her an “old ugly model…who’s [sic] career is uninspiring.” {US Weekly}

Whoops! Miss Universe Canada pageant organizers have revealed that they handed the crown to the wrong contestant due to a simple “human error” of a typo. {HuffPo}

What to Expect from the Met’s Punk: Chaos to Couture Exhibit

“PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” the latest exhibit organized by Andrew Bolton for The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, opens to the public tomorrow. The press got a first look today. And I have a feeling reactions will be mixed. (The International Herald Tribune‘s Suzy Menkes already panned the exhibit for being too “sanitized and bloodless.”) Here’s why:

Bravo’s Andy Cohen To Host CFDA Awards

Bravo posterboy Andy Cohen has just been revealed as the host of this year’s CFDA Awards.

And we think he’s up to the task. We’re pretty sure that most of the fashion industry (and at the very least the Fashionista staff) consume a helluva lot of Bravo. Even if Watch What Happens Live! isn’t your cup of (booze-filled) tea, you can’t deny that it takes great skill to be able to control a Real Housewives reunion special.

Walter Van Beirendonck on His New Dallas Exhibition and Reuniting with the Antwerp Six

Walter Van Beirendonck’s outrageous designs may be a little out there for your typical conservative Dallas crowd, but that didn’t stop Dallas Contemporary from inviting the menswear designer to exhibit there.

This past Friday, the museum opened an exhibition of his quirky and colorful designs called “Lust Never Sleeps–Silent Secrets,” which are also the titles of his winter 2012/2013 and summer 2013 collections.

We caught up with Van Beirendonck the day before the exhibition opened to ask him about Dallas (he said he hadn’t seen much of the city, but that he really wants “to see some line dancing, some rodeo, some real cowboys”) the effect of museum exhibitions on fashion and the possibility of an Antwerp Six reunion.

Brooklyn Designer Accuses Yoko Ono and Opening Ceremony of Copying Her Designs

Yoko Ono’s menswear collection for Opening Ceremony was… a lot of things. Wacky? Sure. Difficult to pull off? Definitely. But, unoriginal? That seemed unlikely.

However, Brooklyn-based designer Haleh Nematzadeh thought Ono’s designs looked a little too familiar. She’s gone so far as to file a lawsuit against Ono this past Friday, claiming the 80-year-old artist conspired with Opening Ceremony to steal her designs.

What Fashionista Editors Want for Spring

The first official day of “spring” is tomorrow. Apparently. (With another snow day yesterday we’re starting to doubt spring will ever come.) Even though the weather is still kind of miserable, we’ve already started our spring shopping lists. Here’s what we’re all craving if warmer weather ever happens. Fingers crossed.

Louis Vuitton Fall 2013: Into the Boudoir

Louis Vuitton Fall 2013: Into the Boudoir

For Marc Jacobs, it’s all about bedroom dressing. He started his fall 2013 journey at a glam rock pajama party and ended it in a boudoir. Jacobs’s sepia-hued New York collection began with satin pajama jobs and high-waisted bloomers. His Louis Vuitton effort, showing on Wednesday in Paris, closed with sheer playsuits, floral housecoats, and Kate Moss in an elegant, body-hugging slip. The only thing missing was a post-coital cigarette.
