Fashion Insiders Tell Us

How to Avoid a Fashion Week Meltdown

We’re approaching the home stretch of New York Fashion Week, which means many of our attitudes have shifted from excited and energetic to when-will-this-be-over? So, we asked some of fashion’s busiest bees to tell us what they do to stay sane (and no we don’t mean pharmaceuticals–though those certainly aren’t off-limits). From Jenna Lyons’ many coats, to BryanBoy’s cathartic Instagramming, click through for their (and our) tips and tricks!

Kelly Cutrone Tells Us More About Her Thieving Ex-Assistant, Says He Stole Her Credit Cards

Kelly Cutrone Tells Us More About Her Thieving Ex-Assistant, Says He Stole Her Credit Cards

Yesterday, we learned, thanks to a mini Twitter rampage by Kelly Cutrone, that one of her former assistants had stolen money from her company People’s Revolution and would soon pay the price. Kelly called us yesterday and now we know a little bit more about Kelly vs. the thieving ex-assistant.

First of all, she confirmed that the culprit is who we thought it was: the person she directed this tweet to, Brunson Stafford. He worked for Kelly for only a few months and was fired during this past fashion week. And he’s been methodically stealing money from her for the past several months.

Fashionista’s Week in Review: Justin Bieber Looks Terrified in V, a Plus-Size Editorial Takes Aim at Runway Models’ BMI, and Checking In With Moda Operandi

Kelly Cutrone to Replace Andre Leon Talley on America’s Next Top Model?

Kelly Cutrone to Replace Andre Leon Talley on America’s Next Top Model?

Kelly Cutrone‘s return to reality tv could be imminent and have a totally new context. The fashion publicist and author may replace Andre Leon Talley as a judge on America’s Next Top Model after the 17th season ends, Page Six reports. Talley’s been on the show for four years and since he began, his title at Vogue has changed from editor at large to the less burdensome one of contributing editor. Perhaps he intends to increase his role there again? Maybe Anna misses him?

Since Kell on Earth doesn’t look to be coming back anytime soon and The Hills/The City are definitely dunzo, we were wondering when we would be seeing Kelly on the small screen again. Given the affinity she’s shown for giving advice and making decisions, we think she would make a great judge for just about anything.

Kelly Cutrone Shows Off New Client Ultra Diamonds With a Helicopter Ride to Woodbury Commons

Kelly Cutrone Shows Off New Client Ultra Diamonds With a Helicopter Ride to Woodbury Commons

Normal Gets You Nowhere is the title of Kelly Cutrone’s new book, but perhaps the mantra extends even further–like into her method for organizing press events.

Marshaling a dozen editors and bloggers eighty miles away from their offices in the middle of a work day is no small challenge. But leave it to Kelly and her People’s Revolution team to find a solution that was definitely not normal, in the best way possible.

For yesterday’s reopening of the Ultra Diamonds store in Woodbury Commons (a pretty amazing outlet mall about a 90 minute drive from Manhattan), Kelly ordered helicopters to whisk her guests straight from 34th street to suburbia in twenty short minutes.

Those minutes went by even faster with the aid of Kelly’s in-flight commentary: I’ve never heard anyone praise cloudy weather for being “goth” before, but hey, it kind of was. And in a testament to the ironclad memory that surely contributes to her PR success, Kelly remembered our helicopter pilot from his flying her once before– over a year ago– and asked about his daughter.

Kelly Cutrone Is Launching A Clothing Line Channeling Phoebe Cates in Fast Times At Ridgemont High: Kelly Cutrone and Robyn Berkley of People’s Revolution are launching a sportswear label called The Electric Love Army, which they describe as “affordable and fun” for the 15-32 year-old set. Cutrone told WWD, “You know that scene in ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ where Phoebe Cates climbs out of the swimming pool and pops her bikini? That’s our girl.” {WWD, subscription required}

Alice Temperley Was Made a Member of the Order of the British Empire and Forgot To Curtsy: Alice Temperley was presented with an MBE (which is sort of like a knighthood, but not quite) by Queen Elizabeth. Suno, Fetherston and Pamela Love Fall 2011: When Milk Boils Over – Chaos and Crowds at Saturday Night’s Shows

Suno, Fetherston and Pamela Love Fall 2011: When Milk Boils Over – Chaos and Crowds at Saturday Night’s Shows

When we arrived on time for a trio of Saturday evening presentations at MAC & Milk, we couldn’t possibly have predicted the insanity we were in for. With the fur-coat-wearing, Blackberry-brandishing masses attempting to simultaneously check in for Suno, Erin, Pamela Love, Billy Reid, Illesteva, and Altuzarra, suffice it to say that there weren’t quite enough iPads on hand to make the process run smoothly. After over an hour of waiting in the throng, we were informed that all the eighth-floor presentations had finished. While we aren’t surprised that 450 West 15th St. is an incredibly coveted show locale (regal and historic as Lincoln Center may be, it just doesn’t carry the same edgy-cool factor as MAC & Milk) we hope that as the week progresses, the downtown venue will step up its game and be better able to handle the crowds.

Jeremy Scott Shows Collection Inspired by Trash (and Gaga?) to Star-Studded Front Row

The media frenzy at Jeremy Scott, orchestrated by the very hard-working Emily, Robyn and Kelly of People’s Revolution, just happened to take place in front of my section and lasted longer than the show itself. This was fine and completely entertaining.

Kelly seemed cheery and said to my section, “Is everyone good? You like my $100 Jeffrey Campbell shoes? Recession chic.” Kanye seemed pleasant and happy to be there and Solange looked pretty and really skinny. Oh and Waris Ahluwalia and Terence Koh sat across from me and are thus in every one of my pictures of boys in assless chaps and girls in trash bag outfits, which I find pretty amazing.

Andrew Mukamal Tells Us the Story Behind His Styling For Kimberly Taylor’s SS2011 Collection

Andrew Mukamal Tells Us the Story Behind His Styling For Kimberly Taylor’s SS2011 Collection

After watching Andrew Mukamal on Kell On Earth, young designer Kimberly Taylor decided that he was her “soul mate,” and that they needed to work together. So they have.

Tomorrow, Taylor presents her first full collection for Spring/Summer 2011, styled by Andrew Mukamal. It’s his first major gig after leaving People’s Revolution just over a month ago. We knew from watching Mukamal alongside Kelly Cutrone on Kell on Earth that he was chatty and hilarious. So we asked him to walk us through the story behind three of his favorite looks that he styled for Taylor. Because, Mukamal told us, “Each girl has a story.”

Rumor: MTV Has Canceled The City

Rumor has it that MTV has canceled (seemingly) successful scripted reality series The City. The current season, which airs on Tuesdays at 10.30pm EST, will be its last.

The City, a spin-off of the The Hills, which was a spin-off of Laguna Beach, documents the “life” of Whitney Port, a young designer trying to make it in New York. It mostly takes place at real-life fashion industry companies, including Kelly Cutrone‘s public relations firm People’s Revolution and Elle magazine, where main characters Erin Kaplan and Olivia Palermo “work.” (Kaplan does indeed work full time at Elle, Palermo does not.)

In general, we’re a bit surprised by this news.
