‘BB’ Craze Hits Hair Creams, Fancy Teas

If you thought BB, CC, and DD face creams were confusing, wait until you try to sort through the next generation of so-called “alphabet” products.

According to a recent article in WWD, BB cream sales alone (not counting CC creams) reached $36 million in 2012, up from $2 million in the prior year. That’s 1,800% growth. Last week alone I got samples for three new BB creams, two CC’s, and even one BBB cream. So with the skyrocketing popularity of BB creams (and its other ABC relatives), it’s not that surprising that companies are trying to expand the category beyond skin.

Every once in a while you get that just-been-struck-by-lightning feeling when you see something in a store. (Right? Or is this just me?) This seems to happen to me a disproportionate amount of time when I walk into AllSaints. Having never met a black leather jacket I don’t like, their moody, tough aesthetic really speaks to me.

Recently I popped in there when I had 20 minutes to kill between appointments, and I walked out with this jacket. Which is sort of dumb, because now it’s finally getting warm enough that you don’t need a jacket.

Despite the fact that Gwyneth Paltrow was totally miserable at the Met Gala and is never going back, she featured it on this week’s edition of goop.

In what may be a clue as to why she had such a horrible time, there is a big frosty dirty martini featured in one of the behind-the-scenes shots. Hard liquor, plus a long sleeved gown and a hot room, plus probably not eating anything before she hit the red carpet, could definitely equal misery. And we know how Gwyneth feels about martinis…

At this point you’ve no doubt read countless articles about how you should douse yourself with sunscreen–not only will it help prevent skin cancer but it will also prevent you from looking like a chewed up piece of leather in 20 years.

The problem is that it’s a big hassle–it takes a long time to apply correctly and a lot of the formulations out there are thick, chalky and difficult to blend in.

Thanks to two new innovative launches, sunscreen is way less annoying. We tried ‘em out.
