Take Ivy, an Ivy-League collegiate guide to menswear, was originally published in Japan in 1965.
In fact, this is the book that made “trad” fashion so popular among young Japanese men. The look is an adaptation of the old-money prep school style of, you guessed it, American Ivy Leaguers.
Filled with photo after photo of gorgeous (now-retro) scenes from the daily lives of these boys, Take Ivy is now enjoying a welcome run with powerHouse Books. This new edition is the first to be translated into English, but remains otherwise unedited. To be sure, some of its charms lie in the captions.
But if this book was influential before, it’s absolutely indispensable today.
A name synonymous with draped womenswear since 1998, Yigal Azrouel has something new up his sleeve–a younger, more modern collection of looks under the name Cut25.
While his ready-to-wear collection is slinky and definitely sexy, this collection boasts more of rock-star influence, making it the rebellious twenty-something cousin of Azrouel’s other lines. Expect leather and even a sequin or two, starting at $180 with most items in the $300 range.
Intermix just received its first fall shipment, and the collection will also be available at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Bloomingdale’s, and other retailers across the country.

White Light, White Heat: Upscale L.A. brand Fred Segal has partnered with Akomplice to sell a Paint Project-friendly kit to promote positive environmental decision-making. How, you ask? If everyone painted their roofs white (thereby lowering cooling costs by reflecting the sun’s light instead of absorbing it), the amount of energy saved would be comparable to taking every car in the world off the roads for 11 (!) years. Looks like white just may be the new black. {Coolhunting}
The Cold War might be over, but Russian spies are pretty hot right now. The FBI rounded up a ring of 11 Russian spies living undercover in New York City this past week. The alleged spies used tactic straight out of a thriller–code words, switching bags, burying money, and using invisible ink. And there’s no denying Anna Chapman is one foxy spy.
While the charges are serious, the theatricality of it all got us daydreaming. We even watched Gorky Park twice this week and swooned over Joanna Pacula’s style and beauty.
Check out our favorite Russian spy-inspired looks.
It seems like everyone is pairing up with a designer these days, but from diapers to sponges, some partnerships are definitely wackier than others. Here are six collaborations we never saw coming:

A Slick New Look: Proenza Schouler drops its latest web-exclusives– an “oil slick” necklace and bracelet. Too bad it reminds us of the state of the Gulf….Poor timing? {Proenza Schouler}
Stupid Is As Stupid Does: Diesel’s “Be Stupid” ads got a lot of attention when they debuted in the U.S. back in March, but it seems the U.K. is not a fan. The campaign has been banned by the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for indecency and for fear they could “be seen by children and might encourage bad behavior.” Ok, U.K., you hold on to your “Keep Calm And Carry On”; we’ll keep our “Be Stupid.” {The Huffington Post}
