Pastels and nudes seem to have been the palette of choice at this years’ Golden Globe Awards. Emma Stone looked perfect in her peach-colored Calvin Klein dress and Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, while Helena Bonham Carter looked crazy-good in Vivienne Westwood and different colored heels. A very pregnant Natalie Portman looked very stunning in a pink Victor & Rolf strapless gown and Leighton Meester, like always, looked amazing in a long-sleeve Burberry dress. Claire Danes also chose to wear Calvin Klein and Anne Hathaway looked beautiful in an Armani Prive gown.

An Evening in SoHo: Sofia Coppola Talks Somewhere and Anna Sui’s Book Signing
By Elizabeth Jaime
SoHo was cold and packed with Christmas-crazed tourists Thursday night, but that didn’t keep me from scurrying over to the Apple Store and to Anna Sui’s boutique for two really exciting events celebrating two of fashion’s finest (who also happen to be friends.)
First stop? Apple, to see one of my icons (not just in fashion but in life), Sofia Coppola, speak about her latest film Somewhere, as part of Apple’s Meet The Filmmaker series.
And while Marie Antoinette will forever reign as my favorite of her films (okay, maybe my favorite movie ever?), I have high hopes for Somewhere, which stars one of our favorites, Elle Fanning.
After about an hour of camping out in my chair so that no one else snagged it, Sofia finally walked in wearing a heather gray cashmere sweater scrunched up to her elbows, a pair of fitted blue jeans, and what looked like a pair of Chloe wedges. Her hair was perfectly tousled and the only jewelry she had on was a diamond tennis bracelet and a slim black leather watch.
Sofia spoke about the challenges she faced, the similarities and differences between all of her films, and what inspired her to do Somewhere. “All my previous films had been from a girl’s perspective, so I really wanted to do a film from a man’s point of view.” she said.
The result is the story of an actor (Stephen Dorff) who re-evaluates his life after his eleven-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning) surfaces. Filmed at the iconic Chateau Marmont in LA, Somewhere is bound to beautiful, however, Sofia explained that Marie Antoinette was so over-the-top that she really felt like doing a more subtle movie.
Unfortunately, there was no talk about her latest Dior commercial starring Natalie Portman, but that only makes me more excited to see it.
Shortly after, I went a few streets down to Anna Sui’s shop for the signing of her new self-titled book, written by Andrew Bolton, the curator at the Costume Institute at the Met.
The designer’s store was filled with fans, shoppers, and really helpful sales people.
After submerging myself in the visually rich book, which chronicles Sui’s twenty years in the business, I got a chance to speak to her myself about how it came to be.
“Chronicle Books approached me to do a book and so I thought the perfect person would be Andrew [Bolton]. I’m so happy that he did it because he kind of made it logicial and clear and explained it all–what’s going in my brain all these years because I never had explained myself. All I did was show, show, show–and he wrote it so beautifully,” she said.
The designer also had a few words of advice for anyone wishing to be as successful as she is: “The important thing that everyone should realize is nothing happens overnight, that it’s a process to have a career. A career is not one day, it’s not one year–like this is 20 years of work and this shows a career…it takes time.”
So, despite the freezing temperatures (note: as a Miami native, this is my first real winter!) I felt inspired by two very influential women. So bravo to them!
The Pre-Fall 2011 collections are trickling in one by one and we’ve gathered our favorites so far. From Chanel’s Byzantine-inspired looks, to Zac Posen’s bold and colorful pieces, we’re impressed. Take a look at our top ten.

‘Tis The Season To F**k Off: It seems that a Harrods employee got a little upset after he was fired from his position as the toy departments “Father Christmas.” The employee barricaded himself in the store, located all the corresponding switches of the light display outside, and spelled out “F**K OFF” with the lights. Apparently, he had been drinking –the reason he was fired in the first place. {Tumblr/Dashperiod}

L.A.-Based Label McTega’s Facebook Contest is Pretty Awesome
By Elizabeth Jaime
McTega, the jewelry and clothing line best known for its colorful and eccentric necklaces, is hosting a really cool contest.
The L.A.-based label, the brainchild of two former Rodarte interns, is offering Facebook friends a chance to purchase a necklace (valued at $100) for only $20. The buying period starts today and will last until January 13. Once the buying period is over, Mctega wants you to send in photos of how you styled your new necklace.
For inspiration, the jewelry line has invited six “stylists” including Marie Claire‘s Taylor Tomasi Hill, and Zanna Roberts Rassi, to style the necklace in various ways. We took a look at some of the photos on their Facebook page (under the 10 necklaces/6 stylist album) and they are all really great.
Once contestants have sent in their pictures and the contest closes on January 31, Mctega will narrow the selection down to their favorite 10. Once the top 10 is chosen, an interactive voting system on the website will allow everyone to vote for who they think should win. The chosen winner will receive a special Mctega prize, which we can only imagine is an amazing piece of jewelry (or clothing!)
To find out more and check out the stylists’ photos, visit Mctega’s Facebook page. Good luck!
