With only one actual season at Gianfranco Ferre under their belts, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi – of 6267 fame – are already branching out into menswear under the Italian label’s name.
The duo will unveil the collection in Milan at Men’s Fashion Week on January 18th, and those are absolutely all of the details available at the moment.
So now that’s: Gianfranco Ferre, Gareth Pugh, Roland Mouret, Carlos Miele, Christophe Decarnin and Matthew Williamson, all making forays into boys’ clothes in the same year.
Perhaps Valentino Man will be inspired to rejoin the class for the Spring 2010 shows?
But anyway, if Monique Lhuillier announces a line of suits, we’ll know this is officially a craze.

“Our regular client was not queuing on January 3 – 4 in Milan or Rome but was on the slopes in St Moritz or on a boat in the Caribbean. We want to offer a real luxury and not to open our doors to the consumption of young girls who can put the designer handbag of their dreams on their arm with less than 300 Euros. We are not interested in that.” – Giancarlo Di Risio, Versace’s CEO, to Il Sole 24 Ore via Vogue UK.
While some may be antsy about the upcoming awards season, we, as always, are more concerned with the results of the upcoming buying season. So here’s a taste of the more notable additions you can expect on Net-a-Porter for your Spring 09 at-home shopping:
- Adam
- Christopher Kane
- Etro
- Eugenia Kim (Who, incidentally, just named one of her hats the “Faran”, which may or may not be related to our founding editor)
- Jason Wu
- Jil Sander
- Kova & T
- Loeffler Randall
- Philip Crangi
- Preen Line (Preen’s more affordable secondary line)
- Steven Alan
- Thakoon
- Victoria Beckham
- Vivienne Westwood Gold Label
- Yves Saint Laurent (no word on whether that’ll include Pilati‘s new Edition Soir collection)
(Full list after the jump)
So, if you can get your mind around Spring clothes and spending money, happy clicking!
During the last couple Fashion Weeks, you were like to spot either Tyson Beckford or Niki Taylor with a camera crew in tow, since they were filming Bravo’s Make Me a Supermodel.
Now, you can add Nicole Trunfio to that list, since she’s just been brought on by the show as “a mentor to the female models.” The Bravo press release also says you can count Catherine Malandrino in as a judge, whom you might remember from an earlier episode of Project Runway.
We’re a little surprised Nicole took this gig – We wouldn’t have pegged the skateboarder and summer housemate of Gemma Ward as the reality TV type, but hey, does anyone on television surprise you anymore?
More bad news for Fashion Week, if you can bare it:
Peter Som will not be showing his Fall 2009 collection, due to a breakup with his backer, Creative Design Studios.
Elana Posner, President and CEO of Peter Som Inc, says they’d already planned on reducing the size of the collection anyway, meaning the show wouldn’t have been anywhere near the 38 looks Som showed for Spring 09 anyway.
Buyers and members of the press can still (most likely) expect some kind of showroom presentation, which probably means that lookbook style photos will probably still make it online, so worry not if all you want is to see the clothes before it hits the stores.
Which makes us think: We – along with pretty much everybody who’s honest with themselves – have known for a long time that Fashion Week is, dare we say it?, unnecessary. Because if it really is about just seeing the clothes, you can actually see them best on Style.com, truth be told, especially if it’s the same kind of high-gear show that the big designers (Marc, DVF, Herve) usually throw. So after this Fashion Week is over, and so many designers pull out of the shows to find themselves totally unscathed sales-wise (and maybe even with a few extra dollars in their budget considering that even modest shows cost upwards of $15,000,) will they even want to return to the stress and grandeur of what is basically the most hyped-up trade show on earth?
Guess we’ll know by Spring 2010…

Both online and in stores.
A good thing? Or…
Apparently, 90210 is the zip that keeps on giving.
Because believe it or not, there’s not one, not two, but four separate nail polishes dedicated to the city of ostentatious wealth. Kind of ironic in these times of financial strife, no?
OPI’s three-piece 90210 collection is based, unfortunately, on the new craptastic CW show. Props to the brand for the idea, but where were you when the original and far superior show was a weekly ritual? I would have been all over a Brenda nail polish like, well, Brenda on Dylan.
Alas, the three polishes are themed on lackluster Annie, Silver and Naomi. Though unlike their namesakes, all three shades are versatile and complementary, with the crimson and shimmery purple at $8.50 each and available now.
Not to be outdone, Essie’s teamed up with the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitor’s Bureau to create Love, Beverly Hills xx. The shade, available this month, is a racy red (at left) with a golden shimmer courtesy of actual 24 karat pure gold. Of course.
So in case you were wondering (and we totally know you were), the official color of Beverly Hills isn’t black (as in AmEx or Lauren Conrad’s shade of choice) or platinum (as in wedding band) – it’s rich and shiny red.
