The Best TV Prom Moments of the Last 20 Years

We’ve already covered the most unforgettable prom dresses on the big screen, but honestly, sometimes it’s those formative high school moments on the small screen that really stay with you. From Buffy’s surprisingly timeless strapless gown (post-demon hunting, no less) at Sunnydale High to Blair’s dreamy haute couture dress on Gossip Girl’s Upper East Side, Read more →

Loomstate’s Designers Bike Ride Drunk (for the Environment!), Convinced Winona Ryder To Stop Washing Her Jeans

Just in time for Earth Day on Sunday, the fashion crowd went crunchy (well, as much as they could) last night at the charity concept store Treasure & Bond in Soho when Rogan Gregory and Scott MacKinlay Hahn of eco-fashion line Loomstate took over to debut their Loomstate 321 line.

This capsule line of reversible and versatile multi-colored tees, tanks and dresses fashioned from one knit, man-made fabric Tencil will appeal to the environmentally conscious, frugal and laundry-challenged alike. One of the light, mega-layered and color-blocked dresses that Rogan Gregory showed us can be worn in eight different ways.

Design partners Gregory and Hahn live and breathe by their eco-conscious beliefs–incorporating them not just in their designs but also in their daily lifestyles.

“To reduce my fossil fuel footprint, I ride my bike every day and I’m as healthy as I was 20 years ago,” Gregory explained to us. “Sometimes, it’s after midnight and I’ve drank like three beers. It’s kind of like, ‘Ah, I don’t want to get on the bike.’ But you get on the bike and you can feel good about it for so many different reasons.”

Wait, what?

Jessica Stam’s Response to ‘Haute Mess’ Controversy: ‘I Don’t Know…Whatever.’

Along with Andrej Pejic, Irina Shayk and Kate Upton, new face of Cover Girl Jessica Stam walked the red carpet at the Jeffrey Fashion Cares event last night. We knew she dyed her hair brown, but it really is such a striking difference that we almost didn’t recognize her. “Katie Grand wanted me to do it for a project that hasn’t come out yet,” Stam explained. “I don’t know if I can talk about it yet. [It’s a] modeling art project.”

Interesting, but what we really want to talk about is the recent controversial Vogue Italia (oh, Vogue Italia) spread, presciently titled “Haute Mess”.

Last Night’s Party: Artist Liu Bolin Had To Massage Jean Paul Gaultier’s Leg While He Stood For His Harper’s Bazaar Portrait

Last Night’s Party: Artist Liu Bolin Had To Massage Jean Paul Gaultier’s Leg While He Stood For His Harper’s Bazaar Portrait

Fashion and art collided head-on last night at the Eli Klein Fine Art gallery in Soho during the opening of Chinese artist Liu Bolin’s exhibition, “Lost in Art”, which included a high fashion collaboration (not of the H&M variety). For those of you who don’t subscribe to Harper’s Bazaar (disclosure: I do), the magazine collaborated with the contemporary artist to literally paint larger-than-life fashion designers Alber Elbaz, Angela Missoni, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino and Jean Paul Gaultier — who was on hand, working the crowd — into the background.

Liu is quite renowned in highbrow (and deep-pocketed — the large size of the pieces sell for $36,000 a pop) arty circles for his quiet but striking conceptual photos featuring himself painted into culturally and historically important locales in China. Harper’s Bazaar special projects director Laura Brown happened to have stumbled upon his work at a Stockholm gallery recently, whipped up this collaboration and skillfully made it work.

Jean Paul Gaultier Thinks Andrej Pejic Is a Beautiful ‘Modern Woman Boy of Today’ and Did Somebody Say Threesome?

Jean Paul Gaultier Thinks Andrej Pejic Is a Beautiful ‘Modern Woman Boy of Today’ and Did Somebody Say Threesome?

Legendary designer Jean Paul Gaultier was in town last night to celebrate the opening of Chinese artist Liu Bolin’s exhibition, “Lost in Art” at the Eli Klein gallery in SoHo. The artist teamed up with Harper’s Bazaar to literally paint some of fashion’s biggest designers (including Alber Elbaz and Angela Missoni), camouflaging them, as is his style, into their surroundings. Gaultier, obviously, got hidden in marinieres. And New York is just a stop on his US tour. Next, the designer takes off to Cali for the San Francisco debut of his own exhibit, “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk”, which opens on March 24 at the DeYoung Museum. (The exhibit previously made stops in Montreal and Dallas and will travel on to Europe later this year).

Along with getting ready to ring in his 60th birthday, fashion’s enfant terrible is a busy, busy man these days. He recently succeeded quote-master Karl Lagerfeld as the celebrity creative director of Diet Coke and co-starred along with a debatably creepy marionette in a trifecta of somewhat bizarre videos promoting the fizzy sugar-free beverage. We managed to wrest Gaultier away from a lively chat with friends for a little talk of our own. He then refreshingly turned the tables on us by kicking off the conversation. (Suggestion: Please imagine this interview with JPG speaking in his charming Parisian lilt.)

Shalom Harlow Models Some Serious Rocks in Cartier’s Debut Short Film, “L’Odyssée de Cartier”

It took Cartier nearly two years and a crew of 60 trained specialists to complete the brand’s first-ever short film, so it was a no-brainer that the legendary French jewelry house would go all out to celebrate the premiere of L’Odyssée de Cartier. Now before we even go into discussing the cinema piece that celebrates Read more →

Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2012: Structured Minimalism, and a First Foray Into Shoes and Bags

As guests were filing into the Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2012 runway show, the upbeat dance-y mood music featured familiar voice. A quick Shazam check revealed the tune to be Gloria Estefan (recently seen wearing Narciso Rodriguez and not falling in the Heart Truth Red Dress Show) singing her somewhat recent single, “Heat”. And then it was clear that the tune was a guest list indicator because the singer and sometime Glee actress walked in and worked it in another hot fire engine-red Rodriguez number.

“I love him,” the petite singer gushed about Rodriguez. “He’s a good friend and I love his style. He’s been there for special moments for me.”

Tracy Reese Fall 2012: City Girls Wear Color

Each Fashion Week, you’ll have the high-concept thematic collections, the over-the-top sexed out ones and grungy downtown cool styles, but honestly, sometimes all I want to do is look at pretty, flattering pieces I know will make me feel good about myself. And that’s why I love me a Tracy Reese show (and why I go bananas at her sample sales).

“I wanted to do something bold and vibrant,” the designer told me backstage before the show. “Very confident and using color in a very optimistic way. We have a lot of gorgeous fabrics, amazing textures – playing with mixing those textures and layering in a lot of cool embellishments. The skirt lengths are shorter – I just feel [like a shorter hemline] seems more active and energetic. And I want the clothes to have a lot of energy and I think you’ll see that on the runway.”

Lacoste Fall 2012: Hitting the Ski Slopes Sexy-Style

In his second collection for Lacoste, artistic director Felipe Oliveira Baptista not only continued sartorially to amp up the sporty image of the 79-year old brand, but he also magically made it a winter wonderland inside (as it was snowing outside). As a crowd of fashion insiders pushed their way into the Studio before the show, you could hear the collective gasps from attendees upon seeing these tall framed glass aquarium-like structures that bisected the runway. A bottleneck ensued as everyone started snapping pics on their iPhones and wondering what Baptista had in store.

The mood at the show channeled a low-key, insider affair as fashion-y guests air kissed one another and posed for pics before the show began. A New York Giants player was reportedly snacking on a pre-show muffin off the runway and a heavy foundation-wearing Kellan Lutz made such a low-key entrance that the paps didn’t even work themselves into a frenzy to take his picture. And thereby not giving me the signal that the beefy guy in a tight nautical shirt was indeed the Twilight hunk, until someone pointed it out right before the show started. Damn.
