Fall 2010 Paris

The Icing on the Curvy Cake at Louis Vuitton

Wednesday, Mar 10, 2010 / 1:00 PM

‘Fairytale’ is the word everyone used while walking out of the Louis Vuitton show this afternoon.

As if Marc‘s New York show didn’t leave us feeling romantic enough, he outdid himself in Paris. A tent was built around a fountain in the Louvre’s courtyard; the audience sat in a ring around it. The music began at 2:30 on the dot, like the score to a Fellini movie, and Laetitia Casta walked out, pouring over the edge of her pinstripe corset.

Around the fountain they went: Natasha in a leather corset with crocodile pumps, Kasia in a tweed suit, Anne V in velvet, Lara in a floral organza dress just begging for prom circa 1950, Mariacarla in a leather coat, even Bar Rafaeli in a silk wool dress—all with pulled pack ponytails and lady-like bags.

Precious Cargo: We’ve spotted more than one leather envelope under an editor’s arm in lieu of a bag this season. If Celine and Goyard are too much, or too thin, for you, we’ve recently discovered Phillip Lim’s Berry Bag. It’s tiny, but looks like it could actually hold your life, and we want one. {3.1 Phillip Lim}

Borgo Borgo Borgo: Diane Pernet chats with Eddie Borgo about his fall collection. The jewelry designer walks us through his showroom and shows off his latest pieces, which were inspired by Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Ugh, we want every single one! {ASVOF}

Care to Share?: Tommy Ton tweeted something very mysterious last night. We’re dying to know what he knows and hope the news lives up to the hype. We’ve been disappointed too much lately with promises of “earth-shaking” news. {Twitter} Read more »

British beauty company Rimmel London is adding a new crop of faces to their already stellar cast of brand ambassadors. Zooey Deschanel, Solange Knowles and Alejandra Ramos Munoz will join Kate Moss, Georgia May Jagger and Coco Rocha as the new stars of the cosmetics company’s campaigns.

Zooey will be the face of a new lash accelerating mascara, a perfecting powder foundation and a lasting lipstick, with her campaign set to debut worldwide in August. Singer-songwriter Solange’s campaign will debut in the fall, and model newcomer Alejandra will also grace Rimmel London campaigns in the fall.

While Rimmel typically uses British stars to grace their campaigns—save for Rocha and in the past, Madonna—it seems like the brand is looking to diversify a bit with these new choices.

And as for current stars Lily Cole and singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, they’ll be seen in ads through the rest of the year. Whether or not they plan to renew their contracts is still uncertain.

“People always ask if I think about a concept or the show or the front row or whatever first. No! Fuck off! The client comes first! The collection is driven by what clients want in different parts of the world, so I want them to be able to see it straight away and to judge it for themselves. Well I just think that which celebrities are wearing it, what reviews say—none of it matters if it’s all there for people to make their own minds up. I’m 40 now, but I want this to be a company that lives way beyond me, and I believe that customers are more important to making that happen than press. When I’m dead, hopefully this house will still be going. On a spaceship. Hopping up and down above the earth.” -Alexander McQueen in LOVE
