Quote of the Day

Quote of the Day: Azzedine Alaia on Why He Rejects Certain Customers and Watches NatGeo

Q: Are you interested in success?
A: Everyone is! Even a sweeper is interested if you say he sweeps well. It shouldn’t go to your head though, because it’s not for ever. I am not pretentious in such things. You know, from the beginning I could have been the best paid stylist. I have been offered the highest paid contracts in the world. I refused them all. It’s not my thing. I don’t want to cheat people. And there are certain people I am allergic to. I even intervene when I don’t like a customer; I rush in and check all the names. If I don’t like them, I don’t take them.

Q: How many hours a day do you work?
A: I begin at 9 am and I go to bed around 2am, sometimes around 3am. I sleep little. If I’m not working or entertaining, I love to watch the National Geographic channel. It takes my mind off business.

Christian Lacroix may have left his namesake house, but he’s far from through with design. Most recently, the famous couturier teamed up with Barcelona high street brand Desigual on a collection of intricate ensembles for Fall 2011.

The clothes will hit Desigual stores in UK, Germany, and Spain on July 11. We’re trying to find out whether or not they’ll be available online for US customers.

Click through to see key looks from the collection, as well as a group of Monsieur Lacroix’s sketches.

Nicola Formichetti Declares that He Loves Working With Fat People

Lady Gaga stylist/Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti is pissed off. He says that comments he made in the latest issue of W were misconstrued.

“i know i should just leave it but…i really hate when writers just write whatever they want… ‘i dont work with fat people…’ why would someone say such a thing?!” Formichetti declared tonight on his Facebook, under a gorgeous picture he styled for V‘s size issue.

Kate Middleton Wears Alexander McQueen in Prince Edward Island (Canada Outfit #9)

Kate Middleton Wears Alexander McQueen in Prince Edward Island (Canada Outfit #9)

Kate Middleton‘s latest getup is a cable knit Alexander McQueen sweater dress with a sailor collar, designed by Sarah Burton. To us, the dress looks obviously inspired by Anne Shirley, the title character in Anne of Green Gables. (Anne often wore sailor collar blouses with her late 19th century floor length skirts.) Of course, we could be reaching. You see, Middleton and her prince are visiting Prince Edward Island–the Anne books take place in a town on the island called Avonlea. But maybe not, especially if Kate was as obsessed with author Lucy Maud Montgomery as we were.

Kate Middleton Wears Joseph to Prince Edward Island (Canada Outfit #8)

Outfit # 8: Kate Middleton landed in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island yesterday, wearing a lovely shell-colored Joseph shift and pale pink tweed jacket. The duchess looked fantastic, but can we just talk about the fact that William hasn’t changed his suit? Perhaps he should switch to something lighter when he gets to Los Angeles? Maybe tan? Or seersucker?

Hailee Steinfeld for Miu Miu: Even More Campaign Images!

Apparently some people are upset that Hailee Steinfeld is just 14-years-old and starring in Miu Miu ads. We don’t really get it, given the fact that Steinfeld looks adorable–not to mention, her age–in the photos. Plenty of models under the age of 18 work on big campaigns, and they’re often tarted up. Miu Miu‘s campaigns are not only some of the most tasteful out there, they’re also the most compelling. If Steinfeld is deemed old enough to star in movies that work her to the bone and pay her more than what most of us make in a year, then she’s old enough to pose in clothes that she loves.

First Look: The Complete Mulberry Fall 2011 Campaign, Plus an Awesome Behind-the-Scenes Video

Our obsession with Mulberry’s art direction knows no bounds–see last week’s 40th anniversary video and our multitude of posts on the subject for proof–but the label’s Fall 2011 efforts are just out fo this world.

Not only is the Tim Walker-shot fall campaign–starring Julia Saner–visually sumptuous, but we’re also obsessed with the Luke Losey directed short film, which you can see here:

Kate Middleton Wears Erdem For Canada Outfit #7

Kate Middleton Wears Erdem For Canada Outfit #7

This is getting out of control, but we’re not complaining. For her seventh outfit change in Canada, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton donned a cornflower blue dress by Canadian-bred/London-based designer Erdem, which accentuates her impossibly tiny waist. The couple is in Quebec City right now, and next they’ll be travelling to Prince Edward Island, home of Kate’s favorite childhood novel, Anne of Green Gables. There better be some puffed sleeves involved.
