Chanel Does Discreet For Its Latest Prestige Eyewear Collection

You won’t find any glaringly large interlocking C’s on Chanel‘s fall-winter 2011/12 Prestige eyewear collection. Instead, the brand has chosen to identify themselves with subtle emblems.

Pearls, the classic Chanel quilted effect, and a chain theme evocative of the handle on Chanel handbags accent the modern frames.

The oversize, aviator, and cat-eye framed sunglasses, as well as the eyeglasses, are available in muted hues of blue, taupe, and grey–a palette that’s new to the line.

Click through for a look at the range, whose ad campaign stars Claudia Schiffer.

Three Designers to Know in Montreal

Three Designers to Know in Montreal

Montreal is known for many things–Cirque du Soleil, bagels sweetened with honey, Stanley Cups, and festivals. It is also known for its heavy French influence, so naturally, the fashion is good.

While in Montreal for the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit last week, I took some time to check out the city’s thriving fashion scene. Montreal is full of great vintage shops known as “friperies” and high-end department stores like Holt Renfrew. Saint Catherine Street is lined with retail stores akin to New York’s SoHo. The style of the city dwellers is laid back with a touch of that signature Parisian chic.

Montreal is also home to some amazing designers. I got a chance to visit the boutiques of three of the city’s finest local brands–Harricana Par Mariouche, Denis Gagnon, and Marie Saint Pierre.

Click through to learn more about the designers and their work.

The blog Made in Brazil has come to her defense, citing the many favorable reviews Chernikoff wrote about the designers seen during the week. {Made in Brazil}

The World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk Opens at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

If there’s one thing Jean Paul Gaultier hates, it’s convention. That’s why the famously dubbed ‘l’enfant terrible’ is a great designer. For 35 years and 150 collections, Gaultier has delighted, shocked, and inspired the world with his imaginative and eccentric creations.

Finally, this summer, the French designer is getting the recognition he deserves. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has honored Gaultier with his first international exhibit, opening today.

Earlier this week I journeyed up to the Canadian city that Gaultier remembers as one of the first to embrace his work (“the French are always snobbish,” he joked), for pre-opening festivities and a sneak peek at the exhibit.

The thoughtfully curated, “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” is not to be missed.

“First I didn’t want to make an exhibition because for me it was a funeral,” said Gaultier at a press conference Tuesday. So in agreeing to do the exhibit, the designer had certain requests.

Club Monaco Fall 2011, Part 2: Rock and Roll Hollywood

We can’t get enough of neon-colored everything this summer and are looking forward to continuing into fall with a wardrobe of a bolder than usual color palette of bright blues and cherry reds.

But we nearly forgot about our budding love affair with electric hues this week when visiting Club Monaco‘s showroom to take a look at their fall 2 collection (October-December 2011). Plum, blueberry, neutrals, and rust made up the brand’s understated palette of choice for their 1970s “rock and roll glam and the Hollywood heyday” inspired collection.

Riccardo Tisci Talks to Donatella Versace About the Bronx, the State of Couture, and That Dior Rumor

Riccardo Tisci has been the name on everybody’s lips since John Galliano was ousted at the house of Dior and his namesake label. But we haven’t heard much about the designer himself of late due to the overshadowing rumors that he will be named Galliano’s replacement.

Luckily, in Interview mag’s June issue, Tisci has a lengthy interview conducted by fellow Italian-born designer Donatella Versace. The two gush over how much they love one another’s work, talk music, family, and yes, Dior.

Here are some of the highlights:

Toms Just Launched Their Own One-For-One Eyewear Line

We now have yet another option for guilt-free eyewear shopping. TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie announced today that in addition to its iconic slip-ons and shoe line, TOMS will now offer a collection of sunglasses. And because it’s TOMS, for every pair purchased, the company will give sight to someone in need.

Though the brand pioneered this “one for one” business model, they are not the first to take the concept and apply it to eyewear.
