10 Things We Learned About Jenna Lyons From Her New York Magazine Profile

10 Things We Learned About Jenna Lyons From Her New York Magazine Profile

New York magazine’s fall fashion issue features a lengthy profile on J. Crew president, Jenna Lyons.

When I started reading it I thought I couldn’t admire Lyons any more than I already do – she worked her way up in a national company and revitalized J. Crew from a fuddy-duddy lady brand into the coolest thing for ladies of all ages. But lo and behold, there were a slew of facts about the California native that even the most obsessed Lyons follower wouldn’t have known.

So click through to find out more about Jenna Lyons. (Bonus fact: Her workspace is cooler than yours… and ours too.)

Who Knew? Midnight in Paris‘ Lea Seydoux Is Also a Topless ‘Pantytime’ Model for American Apparel

If you’ve been to the American Apparel website in the past two days or so, you’ll have noticed that it’s Pantytime, which is considered a national holiday in Dov Charney-ville. What is Pantytime? It’s a sale on undies and also an excuse to post photos of young, sexy, 20-somethings in their knickers. You can’t fault American Apparel for ever going off-brand–they’ve got a schtick and they’re schticking to it. But same ole, same ole right?

But then in the middle of the slideshow of bottoms, a photo of a recognizable face popped up.

I read the little caption beneath, and wow, it’s Lea Seydoux, the darling actress from Woody Allen’s summer flick Midnight in Paris (which has just been extended to run until August 26) and Prada’s forthcoming Candy fragrance ads. She was a model before she was an actress (as all pretty French girls are), and after a little research I stumbled onto a ton of photos of her model cards, her as a brunette snapped by Garance, and there were also a few NSFW ones from her stint at American Apparel.

So click through to find out a little more about Pantytime and see Lea Seydoux’s XXX AA shots.

Would You Rather…? The Andrej Pejic V. ANTM‘s Fatima Siad Flower-in-Mouth Edition

Coincidence or trend? Former ANTM contestant Fatima Siad appears in Arise #13 with red rose petals in her mouth, while pretty-boy Andrej Pejic covers Follow #5 with a similar red flower in his mouth. Let’s only hope this inspires an ANTM challenge in which the contestants are forced to wear the same outfits and do the same poses as some feminine male models. You know it’s a good idea Tyra.

But back to the issue at hand – who do you think works the flowery look better: Miss Fatima or Mr. Andrej?

Dr. Martens Fall Campaign is Full of Firsts and Forevers

Dr. Martens Fall Campaign is Full of Firsts and Forevers

This morning Dr. Martens, Scott Schuman, and Garance Doré hosted a brunch (read: AM cocktail party) to celebrate Dr. Martens new First and Forever campaign at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in SoHo. Journalists socialized amidst the Neil Young photos and were encouraged to share stories of firsts – first kiss, first love, first pair of Doc Martens, the first time you felt really embarrassed for someone else who was sharing a pee story on video. (Bodily fluids was a hot topic. Champagne in the morning really gets fashion people talking!)

But even the amazingly embarrassing stories couldn’t get in the way of the stellar marketing campaign by Dr. Martens. Let’s be honest, everyone remembers their first pair of Dr. Martens – it’s like a rite of passage. But Dr. Marten’s wants to break away from being a beloved memory and become something to be loved forever. Not hard when you have an classic product fronted by Agyness Deyn and Ash Stymest.

The new campaign features Aggy and Ash styled by Way Perry in some amazing James Dean look-a-like outfits (Aggy loves her some James Dean), posing in vintage cars and arcades. Photographed by Gavin Watson, who’s famous for his photos of British subcultures, the ads will make you want to put on your Docs and rock out to some Neil Young. (Really, there are a lot of Neil Young photos at Morrison Hotel Gallery.)

Check out the campaign to get some serious fall inspiration. We predict white socks and Docs to be the next big trend, don’t you agree?

Would You Rather…? The Models Dressed Up As British Political Leaders Edition

Next month’s Harper’s Bazaar features an editorial of top brit model (and Mick Jagger spawn) Georgia May Jagger dressed as Margaret Thatcher. Don’t get me wrong, we love Georgia as Maggie, but doesn’t this look remind you of another British political themed shot? We’re talking about Agyness Deyn as Queen Elizabeth in LOVE #1–the image Read more →
