Jen Kao Fall 2013: Posh Cruella De Vil

During Jen Kao’s fall 2013 show, I heard more than one person call the collection “Cruella De Vil.” Kao showed black and white spotted furs–paired with the models’ slicked hair, blackened eyes, and glossy red lips, it definitely evoked the chic villain’s wardrobe. For me, the collection on a whole was more Blade Runner than Read more →

Alexandre Herchcovitch Fall 2013: Petals

Flowers have never looked as nice as they did at Alexandre Herchcovitch’s fall 2013 show. Passing on the typical floral prints, Herchcovitch imagined a woman as a flower and her clothes the petals that protect her. “Flowers, flower petals, and the way [flowers] slowly die and the petals fall apart,” said Herchcovitch when naming his Read more →

Lyn Devon Fall 2013: Upstate Lady

Clothes with a story is the story behind Lyn Devon’s Fall 2013 collection. The scenario she dreamed up was of a well dressed lady (probably from the Upper East Side, where Devon’s presentation took place this afternoon), taking a respite among the trees upstate. The result was a menswear-meets-womenswear showing of perfectly tailored and wearable Read more →

SUNO Fall 2013: Prairie Meets Punk

In only eight seasons, SUNO has become the place to be on NYFW’s first Friday. Everyone packed into Milk’s tiny show space from the Courtin-Clarins girls to the Russian street style starlets to Jenna Lyons to, well, everyone. The scene inside was extra jammed because the center row of seats that usually divides the runway was taken out to make room for the prop tee-pee and scattered white rocks that set the stage for the more baroque, nature-inspired fall 2013 collection.

A Détacher Fall 2013: Fit for a Trip

Mona Kowalska, the designer of A Détacher, has done a lot of thinking about travel for her Fall 2013 collection. The traveling woman’s wardrobe was the jumping off point for a show that worked through many inventive and practical pieces from thin knits ideal for layering, to denim dresses and suits, to some printed dresses that would have you standing out in a crowd wherever you may be.

What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day 3

Nothing was going to stop us from catching Jason Wu, Rag & Bone, SUNO and more on day three of NYFW, not even a blizzard. We put on our L.L. Bean boots and our game faces and sloshed from show to show. Thankfully there were some pleasant surprises in the form of mulled wine and Drew Barrymore at Rag & Bone; silly faces fram Cara Delevingne at Jason Wu; and celebs from Kate Nash to Nicky Hilton to Selita Ebanks, all of whom looked completely untouched by the wintry mix outside.

What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day 2

During a day of running around Manhattan while the rest of civilization preps for the Blizzard-pocalypse (twenty inches! maybe!), the Fashionista team took in shows from Richard Chai, Dannijo, Timo Weiland, Costello Tagliepietra and more. On the way we snapped Scott and Garance in the act, fashion’s silver fox Nickelson Wooster, and Jenna Lyons rocking the most envy endoucing leopard coat and bubblegum pants backstage at Kimberly Ovitz. We could not want to be her more.

What We Saw At New York Fashion Week, Day 1

The Fashionista team hit the road today to venues around Manhattan to kick off New York fashion week. (Even though tomorrow is “officially” day one of New York fashion week, with close to 20 shows today, we think it counts.)

From J.Brand’s fashion week debut to pink fur at Tanya Taylor to carousel rides and Ne-Yo at the Prabal Gurung for Target launch party, click through to see what we saw.
