People Are Talking

Feeling Minimal?

erin wasson in a tshirt and shorts.jpgLet’s count it up:

1. Erin Wasson just had garage sale of her clothes because she wanted to be free of all her stuff, and adopt a more “utilitarian” style.

2. Kenzo’s auctioning off a bunch of his art a la YSL and Versace because he wants to live “more free, lighter”.

3. The over-the-top feel of the 80’s runways have made everyone groan “ew” and mourn the days when sequins, shoulder pads and mini-skirts weren’t all on the same runway.

4. This was all preceded by the death of the It bag, over and over.

So does this mean everybody’s over the 80’s before the re-runs have even hit the racks, and are going back to the times of simple lines and uncomplicated pieces (also known as a big part of the 90’s) already?

Are you feeling like you’re over too much fuss in your fashion (and life)? Or are some people just selling their stuff for the cash, and not necessarily for the free closet space?

Don’t Tell Us You Didn’t Like It

In light of everyone’s general distaste over the Fall 09 runways leading straight back into the 80’s/90’s, we bring you a glimpse of happier times.

Picture it: 1991, that girl from Married with Children had her own poster, and you totally swooned over all the high-tension scenes - Yes, it’s Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.

Since it was on air yesterday, we took the time to record and YouTube one of the best scenes - Sue Ellen finds out her uniform-making company’s going down the dumps, but she uses her teenage fashion prowess to whip together never-before-thought-of outfits in the basement factory, and wham, styles up a fashion show that saves the company.

Here she is in her aha! moment. You know you love those shoulder pads.

House of Style Returns

The 90’s television revivals aren’t stopping at 90210 and Absolutely Fabulous. No, House of Style’s jumping on the trend, too.

The Post reports that the MTV show that made Cindy Crawford America’s sweetheart is back for a second try, and the producers already have their sights set on Chanel Iman and Bar Rafaeli (who already has some experience with camera crews) as hosts.

Assuming the show will be the same format of fashion and design information brought to Americans via cute girls, we’re betting it’ll be a hit, especially with those that want to further understand the decade they were born in, which is pretty much MTV’s target audience these days anyway.

In the meantime, please enjoy Cindy and Niki, at left.
