A couple weeks ago, the first ever Rodarte ad was revealed, months after it appeared in Anthem’s fall issue, which was apparently the only time it appeared at all. The image, featuring a blood-splattered wall behind Karen Elson, was the result of a spontaneous shoot that ended up serving as a one-off ad for the brand that had never advertised before (they have since launched a “real” ad for Spring 09).
And now, it looks like Zac Posen has the done the same: The young designer, who has never launched an ad campaign for his nonetheless coveted label, got some of his fashion friends together to create a one-off ad for Spring 09 to appear in Fanzine 137, an indie magazine from Madrid (though the image does appear first in today’s WWD).
So are quiet, one-time-only ads the new way to go for young designers looking to establish their identity without emptying out their wallets? We’ll see - but if Gareth somehow gets Beyonce to pose under his name for a full-page glossy image, you can call it on a trend on arrival.
Way back in November, Leighton Meester was photographed doing a Reebok shoot on the street.
Just today, Vogue UK’s reporting about the campaign, and also saying that the CW star is set to do “another” campaign come mid-May.
But since we’ve never seen any of the Leighton/Reebok images in any magazines, and since Vogue UK’s still reporting that Agyness has had a Reebok campaign, too (she hasn’t) we’re just as confused as Blair Waldorf would be if she could see herself wearing trainers in public.
Stay tuned for more answers.
In the meantime, would it add a dash of much-needed realism to GG if they brought in some more gym class scenes, closely followed by less than perfect hair?
UPDATE: Reebok’s PR confirms that “Leighton is the face of Reebok at Lady Foot Locker through 2009,” and we’re now waiting on dates for when those ads hit print.
And while we never really expected the two to team up, Brooklyn’s penchant for t-shirts and for the fashion beloved band make them a not totally random pair.
Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, the band’s two founding members, are featured side by side with the number of months they’ve been alive printed above their heads - classic Petit Bateau - wearing a tee and a striped v-neck respectively, for their Summer 09 ads.
Just a quick photo to show you the new LOVE advert in UK Vogue, March 2009.
Don’t know if you got it already but it’s looking promising - I was so confused by the advert I had to take a few looks at Agyness Queen’s picture before I realized what was going on.
Anyway, Enjoy,
P
Strangely, we don’t think this ad does much for Katie’s grand opening, but at least we have a specific date - February 19th!
If there are any casting directors out there wondering why they didn’t get a call back about the McQ for Target ad campaign, we hope you didn’t take it personally.
The clothes in the ad, which hit Target stores next month, are modeled by a blonde we all know very well - the Blythe doll, one with blonde hair, blue eyes and bangs.
No, it’s not a Barbie of Gwyneth’s mom, but a certain type of doll that was sold in the US only for the year of 1972, famous for her eyes that changed color whenever you pulled the string that came out of her back.
No word on whether this was a cost-cutting measure or a way to tickle the cost-cutting masses, but we bet it’ll be a hit on blogs everywhere right away. We hope no blonde models’ feelings get hurt in the releasing of this campaign…
After having taken the entire summer off (she told IMG, her agency, that she was even turning off her cell phone), Daria Werbowy is in full force for 2009.
First she popped up in the Roberto Cavalli campaign (sometimes alongside Kate), then Isabel Marant (at left), then the February cover of Australian Vogue - and now she’s been named the face of Matthew Williamson’s H&M line - not her first foray with the Swedish megabrand - a campaign that will include television commercials alongside the designer himself (modeling the menswear), marking his own debut as a model.
Not too shabby considering all he has to do is keep it together next to the Canadian wonder model - but we’re wondering whether this means lines for Daria on TV, of course.
After Vogue Italia’s Black Issue last summer, a lot of people wondered if the well-publicized move would actually do anything about the lack of black models in the fashion industry.
We think there were definitely some more black girls and guys on the runways last season (though obviously still not in the numbers some hoped to see), but here’s at least one concrete piece of evidence of the magazine’s pull:
Ubah Hassan, the regal Somalian model who made her big-time debut in that historic issue, is now in her second season as the face of Ralph Lauren, joining Russian Valentina Zelyaeva, one of the highest paid models on earth who’s been in too many Ralph ads to count.
Thanks to the good people over at Les Mads, Pamela Anderson’s Spring 09 ad campaign for Vivienne Westwood has officially hit the internet.
Predictably, Pamela’s breasts serve as co-stars.
Vivienne and her husband/former student/stylist Andreas Kronthaler flank the Baywatch babe in a few shots. Vivienne even dares to wear the same dress as Pamela (guess who we think looks better).
Can’t wait for this to break in March magazines - It kind of highlights the insert-celebrity-here quality the Katie for Miu Miu campaign can’t rise above.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is climbing back up quite nicely it seems.
After a rather anonymous job for DoTheGreenThing.com, the jilted beauty has managed to land herself as the body for the D&G Underwear ads, which seems to be her only fashion campaign for the season, not counting some continuing work for Agent Provocateur.
We think she’s probably one spread away from landing herself a Fall campaign for somebody big enough to be considered “back,” (Calvin Klein Jeans? Etro?) and then it’ll be like the whole thing never happened.
Which just goes to show - If you do the crime, make sure you have the time to pose like a wrestler for a little while.
Looks like Dolce & Gabbana are goin’ down. It appears Neiman Marcus is pulling D&G from all of its stores. The troubled company has been on a downward spiral for months now, very quietly. No more fancy showroom on 5th Ave - now unremarkable digs downtown. No more Director of Operations for the NY/US office, with no replacement. Now it looks like they’re getting pulled, and not just at Neiman, but other major/specialty stores in the US. Watch and wait.

Um, we’re not totally sure about the above, but if you are, you know what to do. On a side note, is this why they’re launching a controversial ad campaign and $36 eyeshadow? Stay tuned…
For those of you still hungry for more Spring 09 ad campaign news, get excited:
Dolce & Gabbana still has more ads to come out alongside their shots of Karlie, Caroline and Mariacarla, this time of men “on their knees praying.”
The Italian duo swears everyone will take it the wrong way and claim they’re offending religion, claiming that they’re actually promoting a “return to values.”
Either way, we’re sure this is a call for every reporter to get Dolce’s PR on speed dial - As a matter of fact, we haven’t really heard much about them in a while…
The first image from Miu Miu’s Spring 09 campaign with Katie Holmes is out - thanks to Vogue UK - and ready for the tribunal.
While some might go the “feline” description route, we’re struck by how much she looks like Joey Potter giving Dawson a disapproving face (probably because he’s giving her shit for wearing a designer dress, but anyway).
Still to come are the rest of the images, featuring the gaggle of models hired to flank Mrs. Cruise, including Imogen Morris Clarke, Katie Fogarty, Darya Kurovska, Myf Shepherd, Sophie Srej, Tilda Lindstam, and Elena Lomkova.
Remember those CK One commercials that made you fall in love with Kate in the first place?
They’re back! Kind of.
Coty Prestige is launching a new print/TV ad campaign, launching January 20th (President-Elect Obama’s inauguration day) to add extra resonance to their “We Are One” tag line.
The campaign centers around a song written by one of the campaign’s stars, Jamie Burke, who’ll appear with models of “all shapes, sizes and skin tones.”
(Some campaign images, including one of the bottle that comes with a base complete with a removable MP3 speaker, after the jump.)
..Is anyone else hoping Kate’ll make a cameo in the cast?
The rest of the Madonna for Louis Vuitton Spring 09 campaign images are out, and while the Daily Mail can’t get over Madge’s crotch shot, we’re way more concerned with whomever LVMH hired to do their post-production work.
At left, the head of Madonna resting on a chair, with her body resting so close it almost looks life like.
After the jump, a tricep so lean and yet fuzzy, it’s clearly the victim of a Photoshop-grade eraser.
Otherwise, Madonna looks like her normal, taut self, with which we never take issue. Any advertisement that says “Eat well, workout!” is better than one that says, “Don’t eat, be twelve!”
