Cushnie et Ochs showed gorgeous, utterly unwearable clothes at the Chelsea Art Museum yesterday afternoon.
Their cohesive collection progressed from strong, structured pieces to soft, drapey ones very well. A number of the looks had large mesh inserts or cutouts in organic shapes, and needless to say, showed a lot of skin. We can’t even imagine the amount of double stick tape Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs had on hand to pull this off.
The best part of the whole thing was a feature present in a handful of tops and dresses - the easy, feminine draped backs and cowl necks, which were still sexy while actually being comfortable and wearable.
Alejandro Ingelmo sat in the front row and watched the models stomp by in his rock n’ roll shoes, but the real star was the diminutive Tavi, who couldn’t stop gushing over her first official fashion show.

Labor Day weekend used to mean back to school shopping. Now it means beer and BBQs and maybe, if we can stand it, back to Fashion Week shopping.
But if you’re still looking for a valid excuse to spend money in the next few days, how about for charity?
Each October, Glamour asks six designers to participate in their Fashion Gives Back project. This year, they’re recruited Jason Wu, Alejandro Ingelmo, jewelry designer Pamela Love, Brian Reyes, Bensoni, and Lorick, (Abigail, of Gossip Girl fame) to design a series of limited edition totes. They range from sketchy black lines from Wu to a dreamcatcher heart from Love and are exclusively available at Bloomingdales.
At $35, they’re not only affordable, but adorable. And the best part is one hundred percent of the proceeds go to Dress for Success.
Unless of course you are still in school, in which case these are way cooler than the last book bag we carried.
If you’re in New York City this weekend and looking to drop some cash in anticipation of your tax return, there are some pretty good options:
- There’s Mixona, right next door to us on Mott Street, who’s offering a buy-one-get-one-half-off on any pieces of lingerie from Cosabella, Wolford and Eberjey, starting tomorrow.
- But if you’re looking to get shopping today, there’s the extended Scoop sale, the last day of the Hayden-Harnett sale (which we hear gets new stock today), and the Alejandro Ingelmo sale which started today at 10am on Mercer Street.
So get going.
