When MTV cancelled It’s on With Alexa Chung, everyone wondered: Will the British TV personality stay in New York? And what will she do?
Since then, she’s hosted a party for Louis Vuitton and lent her face to Pepe jeans, but her new project will keep her here through the fall, at least. She’s signed on to design a collection for Madewell.
J.Crew, which owns Madewell, isn’t one for celebrity (uninvited Obama endorsements aside), but CEO Mickey Drexler’s asked Alexa to create a capsule collection, including lookbooks full of her sketches and inspirations. WWD’s description makes it sound like the clothes will be marched right from her closet to the sales floor: tea dresses, polka dots, high waisted skinny jeans, wool jackets with lace, bomber jackets, etc.
The collection will land in stores in late August, and Alexa will star in their campaign, too.
Despite our general opinion of celebrity-meets-fashion design collaborations, this one makes sense. Madewell’s target customer is Alexa’s biggest fan, and maybe more importantly, she can afford to shop at Madewell.
We look forward to lining up in August.
I love underwear as outerwear, no pants, leather tees and socks with sandals, but if there’s one thing from SS10 I’ve been waiting for with particular impatience, it’s Mulberry’s Alexa bag.
Alexa Chung carried a caramel version of her eponymous satchel throughout New York and London Fashion Week last September, and it’s finally hitting stores this Monday, January 11th.
Emma Hill designed the bag after spotting Alexa’s vintage men’s briefcase (also Mulberry) and added some girly touches and a handful of color options including snakeskin trimmed leather, hot pink leopard and a beige tweed - they all come in either regular or oversized.
It’s the first time I’ve caved to an “It Bag,” but also the first time an “It Bag’s” looked so classic. More images, after the jump.

Pepe-d: Alexa Chung’s the new face of Pepe jeans. We always imagine her taking a more Burberry-like route, but she did land a Burberry co-star, Tom Guinness, and manages to look plenty Alexa-ish in rumpled shorts and a leather jacket. {Grazia}
Bien Sur: French Vogue names their Forty Women of the Decade. Marion Cotillard, Garance Dore, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Blake Lively, Agyness and their own Carine Roitfeld are included in the eclectic group. {Vogue.Fr}
LSD in a LSD: According to Hadley Freeman, LSD was the topic of discussion in the UK over the holidays. Not our Phi-loving Vogue-ette, but “Little Sequined Dress.” Apparently fashion’s getting more and more teenage-like with a host of acronyms. {Guardian}
One More List: Our last end of the year mention, Hilary and Katharine’s 2009 Style Awards honor Rachel Bilson, Vanessa Traina, Alexa Chung, Leighton Meester and more in categories like Best Import and Most Stylist Social. We second with each and every pick. {WWW}

Last night, Refinery29 tweeted the death of It’s On With Alexa Chung:
It’s Off With Alexa Chung…her show got cancelled. ☹ ☹
Then they added:
…or so we heard from a little birdie.
We thought the show was doing well, MTV picked up the second season just a couple of months ago and moved the hour long show from noon to three which guarantees a much bigger audience. Alexa’s managed to get everyone from Cameron Diaz to Rihanna on her show, while becoming a significantly bigger celebrity in the States than she was just a year ago.
We hope the little birdie’s wrong.
Tommy Ton’s secured his place as Style.com’s go-to photographer.
He’s shot a whole fashion season, the Victoria’s Secret blow-out and now, we hear he’ll shoot a new series for the site.
Like Todd Selby, he’ll be heading inside some of fashion’s favorite homes, though he’ll be skipping straight to the closets and photographing everything from the shoes on the floor to the hat boxes grazing the ceiling.
If he could start with Lauren Santo Domingo and hit every other Vogue-ette on the way up to Anna, that’d be great. Also, a trip to Williamsburg for Alexa Chung and downtown for Bonnie Morrison will be necessary. Who else?
Aside from everything else, holidays mean parties which in turn mean dresses.
If this doesn’t do it for you, and you can’t quite quite afford this, we suggest entering Vogue UK’s holiday contest.
You’ll be entered to win an AW09 Erdem dress or a custom made Poltock & Walsh dress inspired by Alexa Chung. (There’s also a trip to Copenhagen, but that won’t really help you get dressed for the company holiday party.)
All you have to do is click on their contest page and answer a question you’ve read the answer to on Fashionista, and enter your contact information.
It doesn’t state whether or not a UK address is necessary, but we entered with New York and the form went through, so give it a shot. And good luck!
The Atacoma wedges sent shoe lovers into a frenzy when they debuted in Acne’s Pre-Fall ‘09 collection.
Alexa Chung fell particularly in love with them; and the coveted bootie sold out within just a few days after she wore them on her MTV show. So maybe that’s what inspired Jeffrey Campbell to name his knock-off the Alexa?
It’s a well-studied copy. The shape’s exactly the same, the diagonal seaming is spot-on. In fact, the only difference between the two is the transition from the black leather to the silver metal panels. While Acne’s is seamless, Campbell’s has a bit of a divot.
With so many wedge booties out this season, it should be easy to avoid buying a pair based off someone else’s ideas.
The British Fashion Council is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds.
After last week’s news about the creation of the BFC and Vogue Fashion Fund, they’ve just this morning announced a new addition to the British Fashion Awards—a one off called the “London 25.”
The “London 25” was created in honor of the 25th anniversary of the awards themselves and the winner is meant to be someone who “who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for the capital’s fashion industry.” The list of suggested nominees ranges from Stella to Alexa to Vivienne and, of course, Kate.
Unlike the designer awards, the public will be the ones deciding who takes home the prize the evening of December 9th by voting online for their favorites.
So, who gets your vote?
Rachel Antonoff stopped by It’s On With Alexa Chung last Friday to talk clever, not-slutty Halloween costumes.
The holiday might’ve officially passed at this point, but Rachel’s super clever costume ideas are no less inspiring and if you love Halloween as much as we do, you’re already excited for next year.
Rachel showed Alexa how to dress like a gumball machine, gum-under-shoe and static cling. And if you do insist on stripping down (hey, at least it was 70 degrees on Saturday), there’s always Babe-Raham Lincoln.
The second biggest talking point of London Fashion Week, post-Fast, appears to be this picture of Anna Wintour and Alexa Chung front row at Twenty8Twelve.
I was sitting there, staring at the back of Anna’s head and wondering how her hair stays so strangely perfect, when Alexa and Pixie Geldof walked in. Anna kept her head down and sunglasses on as the PR tried to sit the it-girl duo next to her. Alexa pushed Pixie, Pixie pushed Alexa, someone even pointed at Anna until finally Alexa got stuck sitting next to her and Pixie moved closer to a red-headed Peaches.
I would have loved to see what happened if Anna had to sit next to a platinum, dirty-haired, ripped tights-wearing Geldof, but she graciously looked up at Alexa, shook her hand and laughed.
So I think that face she’s making has more to do with the clothes than Alexa (after all she is this month’s Vogue it-girl), because while I loved all the denim and corsets and rompers and boyfriend shirts (and Alice Dellal’s full head of hair), the collection didn’t exactly scream Vogue.

The great thing about a Phillip Lim show is that you know you’ll love whatever comes down the runway.
It might not be revolutionary, but it’s cute, comfortable, flattering, easy to wear and pretty, which is probably why Leighton Meester sat front row bobbing her head to the music, laughing with Hamish and waving to Alexa Chung across the aisle - Lim has that effect.
Along with, at least yesterday, a “Woah, what’s going on” effect when he sent out five dresses that might as well have had Rodarte labels sewn into the neck. A quick scan of the front row’s eyeballs made it clear how blatant the ‘inspiration’ was.
But other than that there were sequins and sequins and more sequins, an adorable red patent trench and, I’m sorry to say, a handful of crop tops. No pants I can do, but crop tops will never happen (for me I mean).
The gold sequin romper Hanne wore toward the end though? That will most definitely happen.

About halfway through day two of Fashion Week, the rain showed no sign of letting up, but the nasty weather didn’t stop the crowds from pouring into Milk for the Preen show.
The beloved Brit label’s front row held Alexa Chung, Cory Kennedy, Leigh Lezark, Trish Goff and and a bundle of editors. And even though I chose to puddle-hop around town in flat boots, it’s pretty clear that nothing will come between the Vogue-ettes and their Proenza heels.
The show opened with a series of moody and monochromatic looks in black, gray, and white before including hints of neon yellow and hot pink - I loved the yellow shoes! - until they finally showed fully hot pink jumpsuits and dresses.
Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi had a ball with texture. It wouldn’t be a Preen show without some lace, but they used ruffles, rosettes, laces and coral-like poufs to build depth into their dresses.
It was pretty clear no one would see the sun today, but the brilliant colors at the Preen show made my day a little bit brighter.

We’ve interviewed stylists and editors and publicists and designers, but we’ve never entered the world of blogging, or even the internet for a Life With.
So welcome to the world of Who What Wear.
We know you love their site. We love their site. And I made it a priority to sit down with Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power while in LA at the end of July to learn how they left the world of print and moved onto the internet. And more importantly, how they ended up putting together one of the most successful fashion sites among the millions.
Inside, how they blew up, where they’re going and what the launch of their book means
to them.

Lily Allen’s landed the cover of ELLE UK’s October issue in honor of the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week.
They’ve put her in a blond wig and custom outfits by Brit designers including Richard Nicoll, Stella McCartney, Burberry and Giles. The crystallized, body con Louise Goldin’s her favorite.
In this behind the scenes video, which also features photographer Rankin talking about how “uber-cool” Lily is, she says she’s never really been into the whole Kate Moss, Sienna Miller thing and jokingly claims Alexa Chung’s her London Style Icon.
It’s the graphic rock star make-up we really couldn’t take our eyes off of though.
This summer we at Fashionista have been drooling over long hair and fingering our own locks, cursing them for not growing faster. The grass does always seem greener, doesn’t it?
You have hair far past your shoulders and then you think, “Hmm, that Alexa Chung sure has a cute little crop going on…” Snip snip! But two weeks later, and you’re shaking your fist at pictures of Blake Lively and her flowing locks.
Last summer I cut my hair from shoulder length to boy short à la Agyness. I was glad I took the plunge, but then let my hair grow out. My hair is back to shoulder length and I was imagining in a few months how nice and long it would be.
And then I saw this photo in Style.com’s round-up of Lollapalooza fashion.

So if you’re still wondering what I look like, you can watch It’s On With Alexa Chung on Monday and find out.
(But be gentle please, I fly under the radar because you guys can be, like, way harsh.)
We’re taking Fashionista to the small screen and hosting a live action Would You Wear segment on Alexa’s new show. She’ll be covering more and more fashion and we’re excited to be involved in the early stages. It’s on MTV at noon for those of you unemployed, or you can watch it online.
Alas, I still don’t have a TV, so let me know how it goes.
We’ve been trying so hard to not spend lately.
Which is why when I was at Topshop on Thursday and tried on a denim dress, I decided to make my wallet my friend (for once) and pass on the purchase.
I was content with my choice (and had basically forgotten said dress) until yesterday.
While walking on Spring St. I spotted Miss Alexa Chung, texting (or tweeting, perhaps) away down the street, wearing that denim dress (or one super close to it.)
Needless to say when I got home I searched the Topshop website, to no avail. The dress has totally sold out, and is nowhere to be found.
