When I found Alice Dellal backstage at Valentino, she was busy bickering with her elegant mother.
Apparently, they disagreed about the right look for the night’s parties. Mom, in head-to-toe Valentino red, favored the Valentino look Alice sported during the show while daughter preferred her cozy shearling, torn t-shirt, jeans and massive shoes - though she couldn’t remember where they were from, “Somewhere on the high street?” she said, “It’s all I can afford.”
The jeans and t-shirt won, quelle surprise, and she looked gorgeous. One always wonders about the pseudo-royalty-becomes-model-types, but up close and personal, there’s no wondering about Alice. She has an air about her and when you stand next to her, you just get it.
The second biggest talking point of London Fashion Week, post-Fast, appears to be this picture of Anna Wintour and Alexa Chung front row at Twenty8Twelve.
I was sitting there, staring at the back of Anna’s head and wondering how her hair stays so strangely perfect, when Alexa and Pixie Geldof walked in. Anna kept her head down and sunglasses on as the PR tried to sit the it-girl duo next to her. Alexa pushed Pixie, Pixie pushed Alexa, someone even pointed at Anna until finally Alexa got stuck sitting next to her and Pixie moved closer to a red-headed Peaches.
I would have loved to see what happened if Anna had to sit next to a platinum, dirty-haired, ripped tights-wearing Geldof, but she graciously looked up at Alexa, shook her hand and laughed.
So I think that face she’s making has more to do with the clothes than Alexa (after all she is this month’s Vogue it-girl), because while I loved all the denim and corsets and rompers and boyfriend shirts (and Alice Dellal’s full head of hair), the collection didn’t exactly scream Vogue.
Got Her: Strolling down Broadway.
Stalked Her: Bright colors on a tall girl (don’t let her moniker fool you) will always catch our attention.
Shot Her: Her total look was a refreshing change of pace from what we often see in our neighborhood, and then we also noticed her cornrows. Very Alice Dellal, except without any awkward regrowth periods.
She Said: She gets inspiration from street style, but overall the way she dresses is personal, “My style is my mood. When I’m happy, I’ll just throw on this shirt.”
We Say: Keep smiling!

Full disclosure: I didn’t know much about Pam Hogg before her show this afternoon except that she used to play music, that LOVE has a David Sims-shot editorial of her clothes and that hers was a really coveted ticket since it’s the first time she’s shown a proper collection in years.
But it was clear, walking into the Science Museum, that this was the show for the cool kids. And, yes, everyone even remotely related to fashion in this city looks pretty cool, so I’m referring to a whole new level of cool. Even the six-year-old boy in front of me had a guitar purse and majorly mohawked hair. The crowd, including Gareth Pugh, oohed, ahhed and cheered with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for Charlotte Ronson’s familial shows.
Dazed’s Fashion Editor Katie Shillingford styled the show which opened with jumpsuits: Neon jumpsuits, pastel jumpsuits, metallic jumpsuits made of latex, velvet, lace and leather before moving into more wearable dresses in the same aesthetic.
Her final pieces - a barely there dress of layers and layers of tulle, a completey sheer beribboned gown and the black lace, rhinestone encrusted goth bride dress on Alice Dellal at the end of the show - were really spectacular, especially considering she handmade all of her samples with just one other person.
Afterwards, we wondered just how much Lady Gaga’s clothing line will be inspired by Pam’s.
I get to PPQ about five minutes early. I’m meeting Rebecca from Elle.com and despite our seated status, we and the rest of the crowd are locked outside a gate. While the show should be starting, workmen bring in the benches.
Alexa Chung slides by and The Moment twitters that editors are being turned away while socialites are flying in. We get past the gate and there’s a bar serving PPQ lemonade - which has no lemonade and tastes like straight Pim’s. By now, we’re practically in a mosh pit. No one’s let behind the curtain - not even Alexa Chung - until 8:37.
Everyone’s told to put down their glasses, alcohol spills, a girl slips, her knee cracks, she passes out and the stampede rushes on into the almost mile long arcade. Rebecca and I pick her up and get her sorted before taking our seat in the mono-row, (how Marc).
By now it’s 8:53 and 2812 starts in Camden in seven minutes. Colin McDowell and Hilary Alexander both get up and leave. The British Vogue editors behind me chatter, “That’s interesting, should we go too?”
As I’m about to bolt, the lights go down and Daisy Lowe stomps her way down the runway.
The clothes are bright, the braids are plastic and the shoes are fun.
I do indeed bolt before the finale and thank god that I’ve made it this far without passing out, falling down or trampling any passerby.
The end of the year is always full of wacky lists, but this one tops them all.
Company Editor Victoria White, Pearl Lowe, Amiee Berman and Brit PR king Ian Johnson have named the twenty coolest women under thirty in Britain and Lily Cole’s topped the list.
In fact, there are seven models on the list, including Alice Dellal, Alexa Chung, and Daisy Lowe, who came in six places above Agyness Deyn.
Apparently, the judges made an effort to steer clear of the “uber-successful” ladies like Lily Allen, Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller which led to Lily being “the unanimous winner”.
“Everyone on our list has done something incredible with their lives, whether it’s combining a modeling career with university studies, or transforming a hobby into a luxury range.”
Um, ok, sure. But unanimous, really?
We’d have bet money Pearl voted for her daughter.

Living with two girls who both work in fashion is a godsend. Not only are they aware of current trends for women, but they also have a huge interest in boys (menswear of course).
So on a gloomy London morning when I was overheard complaining about shaving, my very caring roommate decided we should go out and by me a beard trimmer. It would apparently give me designer stubble and the appearance of someone who doesn’t really shave but maintains a rough look. Brilliant.
Little did I know the fun that would come with the beard trimmer I now own and the late night experimenting on other members of our “fashion” flat.
You can probably guess what happened, so I’ll spare you the details and go straight to the burning question:
Can a girl pull off an Alice Dellal-inspired shaved side?
Let us know, and if you have pictures, well, you know what to do.
—BR(IT) BOY
[Editor’s Note: Natalie and Britt recently met Johanna, one of the Stylista contestants, in person. She had a somewhat shaved side (more of a very close crop, if you want to get technical), and we have to say, it looked amazing, mostly because it was so subtle. Just a little PS since we would have immediately answered Br(it)’s question with a loud-as-hell no - though we think his friend pulls of the true shave quite well.]

I’m feeling rather blunt.
Maybe it’s the jet lag or maybe it’s the freedom of being in a different country, but the truth is, I really didn’t think there would be a show more over the top, read - worse than - Erin Fetherston.
Well, Alice Temperley, you’ve got her beat.
You were, at least, smart enough to put one of the worst dresses on the best models - see Jourdan Dunn. But you weren’t smart enough to realize that ruffles, studs, bows, butterflies, feathers and beads probably don’t all belong in one look.
Did you mean to have the front row whispering about how your usually made-for-women clothes are perfect for Taylor Momsen’s next event?
With the exception of Iekeliene’s exceptionally frothy dress and the Charlotte Olympia shoes, (which explain the front row presence of Alice Dellal), this collection won’t even be ripped off by Forever 21.
And that sort of says it all.
Between the wavy hair parted heavily on one side, the red lips, and all that uncharacteristic leather and grunge - it seems like Proenza Schouler has a new muse, and we think it’s got to be Alice Dellal.
We’re not sure how we feel about this, exactly. Sure, Alice is cute, and she’s definitely edgy. But isn’t she kind of like the slightly older Cory Kennedy? Or should we say, nine minutes of fame behind her?
Either way, we kind of loved the unexpected hardcore feel to some of the Proenza pieces. Of course they threw in some light and airy looks for good measure - It is Spring.
All that leather could make anyone feel badass, but come on, that tiny leather bustier was made for Alice. Modeling for some of the coolest magazines, designing for MANGO and now inspiration to one of the most established New York designers? I guess we’re going to have to get used to Alice as a fashion mainstay.

Today, Britt came into the office with a startling revelation: it’s mid August. That’s right. Somehow, summer got sucked through a black hole of white dresses and messy buns, and now Fall is basically one click away on our calendar.
But here’s one bright, albeit frank, spot - we can’t wait for the day we skip shaving and slide on a pair of tights instead; which is exactly why ripped ones have been playing on our minds recently.
Our mothers always told us that the best place for ripped stockings was the garbage can. But they also told us not to wear white after labor day or mix prints - so, like so much of their fashion wisdom, has the no ripped tights rule died with decorum?
On the one hand, they looked awesome on Alexander Wang’s runway. Nylon rips gave the collection an endearing edge of “who cares”. On the other hand, they might make you look like you’ve been sleeping in a dumpster for the past week - after all, Wang actually poured pounds of dirt all over his runway to make sure the models looked extra messy.
In other words, we’re afraid this could be taking the whole grunge revival thing just a little too far - not to mention, purposefully tattered clothes (think artfully destroyed $300 jeans) kind of makes us want to use the word “poser” for the first time in years.
So what do you think? Would you wear ripped tights?

It’s been out for a while now that Alice Dellal would follow in the poses of Milla Jovovich, Penelope Cruz, and Mamie Gummer as the new face of Mango - she’s kind of moonlighting as a body for Agent Provocateur, too.
But now WWD’s reporting that she’ll be joined in some ads by Lauren Hutton, the striking gap-toothed beauty of yore who may look just as amazing smiling next to Alice’s 20-something year-old face.
Lauren’s latest move follows in the Fall 08 ad trend of supermodels coming back for guest appearances, like Eva for Louis Vuitton, Naomi for YSL, Linda for Prada, Claudia for Ferragamo and Chanel, Stephanie Seymour for Loewe, Christy for Escada and Amber for DSquared, though nobody’s coming close to touching Lauren’s experience at 64 years of age.
We hope her shots include at least one leather jacket and nothing underneath.
Primal Scream has a pretty solid model history - lead singer Bobby Gillepsie’s married to super stylist Katy England which means getting Kate Moss into their video was nothing, though getting her to sing back-up was kind of a coup.
But now the band’s taken to killing their model friends - or at least Lily Cole and Alice Dellal.
Their newest video, Can’t Go Back, features Gillepsie strolling down a creepy hallway watching the girls choke/drown/die pretty deaths. According to DazedDigital, the video’s inspiration came from classic Italian horror films and Gillepsie had his own ideas on how he wanted to kill off each girl, which didn’t fly with production.
So he just watches instead.
Oh, and the models were cast when director Kim Gehrig asked herself, “Who will look hot even when dead?”
Milla Jovovich, Penelope Cruz, and Mamie Gummer have all posed for the Spanish brand Mango - now it’s Alice Dellal’s turn.
The British best friend of Lizzie Jagger is frequently spotted at London fashion shows and parties, and now she’s finally making the leap over to massive commercials.
She’ll star in Mango’s denim campaigns for summer and fall, and they’ll run on billboards, in magazines, and also in MNG store windows.
Alice’s other big campaign for Agent Provocateur also drops this Fall, so stay tuned -
Maybe like Daisy, Mary Charteris, and Alexa Chung, she’ll be moving to NYC in the near future.
The rumors and anxiety (anticipation?) of Kate Moss being ousted as the queen of lean at Agent Provocateur continue with this latest rumor:
The Daily Telegraph reports that Alice Dellal, the 20-year old model/socialite, has been shot by Agent for a “trial photo shoot”.
They may not be absolutely sure on Alice’s place in AP’s panties, but they do point out that AP did not renew their contract with Kate last year, and that her latest stint in their bridal range was basically a guest appearance.
So the verdict? Alice may or may not be the new AP girl. But here’s a fun fact - she already has experience modeling lingerie - for Pussy Glamore.
