So WWD finally spilled on Amber Valetta’s new design partner - it’s Los Angeles based Monrow.
Monrow’s great, their shirts are super soft and perfectly baggy and wear better than their doppelgänger Kain. And Amber Valetta’s great and hot and has always seemed like a pretty smart lady.
But for some reason this collaboration’s like the anti-icing on the anti-cake of collaborations and we’re left wondering why these brands don’t just hire the model or the actress they want as the face of their brand instead of trying to fool a public into thinking they’re buying a product that actually stemmed from the minds of these women? Because Amber’s collection of slouchy tees and tanks in a palette of greys and black and white and rose is exactly what Monrow already makes, except now they get to throw a supermodel/actress’s name in front of the label.

You can add supermodel Amber Valetta to the list of models/designers.
Tucked into today’s WWD story on the Loomstate for Target pre-party in Los Angeles last night is this:
“As much as I love fashion and as much as it has supported me, I see how extreme and extravagant it is,” said Valletta, who is collaborating on a women’s clothing collection to be announced this summer.
The token statement in which said supermodel honors her place in fashion while preparing the retail stage for her affordable line which probably pays more than some tribute to the high fashion in her own closet.
Anyway, who might she collaborate with? Her Vogue Italia couture supplement’s part of our office wall paper so we’re having trouble envisioning her in Target or H&M - guesses?

Today’s WWD had a long article on what they’re calling the ‘return of the supermodel”.
We’ve sensed for a while that there’s definitely been a shift back to the unique women of the 90’s rather than models that we can sometimes barely tell apart.
But the article brings up something of note: that the design houses giving these women (“girls” just doesn’t seem quite right here) are mostly European with the exception (so far) of DSquared, which is designed by two brothers from Canada.
Do we have a problem with older women in America?
Try not to laugh at that.

WWD reports that Valentino is looking to the 90’s for the final ad campaign before his scheduled retirement.
The campaign features models Amber Valletta and Shalom Harlow, who appeared as a duo frequently in the 90’s, most notably on the March 1997 cover of Vogue.
The campaign will also include Raquel Zimmerman, Anja Rubik, and male models Oriol Elcacho and Michael Gandolfi. But we’re most excited to see Shalom and Amber together again -
Maybe there’ll be a surprise appearance by Cindy?
We doubt it, but stay tuned for the pics anyway…
If you’re in Los Angeles right-this-second, you can sneak onto the set of the Valentino Campaign, which they’re currently shooting for Spring ‘08.
The ads are some of the last for the designer, whose retirement kicks into gear next year.
And to celebrate his second-to-last collection, Mr. Valentino has chosen a mix of old-school super models and new industry favorites to show off his confection couture.
Replacing Gemma Ward and Hilary Rhoda (and Sienna Miller!) as the new faces of the brand are…
Anja Rubik (with Valentino, left), Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, and Raquel Zimmerman.
Those who dig Fashion Trivia should note it’s the second time Shalom and Anja have posed together - the first being for Chloe’s most recent campaign.
Last night we checked out a screening of You Wear It Well, a program of fashion-related short films presented by Paper as part of their annual “UnHollywood” film festival.
The program was curated by style blogger Diane Pernet and artist Dino Dinco. Their open call for films for the traveling line-up was met with submissions ranging from Nick Knight’s kinky collaboration with Alexander McQueen, ‘The Bridegroom Stripped Bare’, to Jeremy Scott’s telenovela spoof ‘Starring’.
We particularly enjoyed Scott’s film; it features friends like Asia Argento, Tori Spelling, Lisa Marie, and Amber Valletta camping it up in Scott’s designs. Which in this case look like Thierry Mugler on ecstasy.
There’s blackmail, there’s bribery, there’s a murder in a Beverly Hills swimming pool…
And Amber Valletta explaining in perfect deadpan that her remedy for cramps is Jeremy Scott couture (in one of the faux-commercials spliced in).
If you can’t catch You Wear It Well’s next showing in LA on October 11th, we recommend at least checking out ‘Starring’ here on Youtube.
