Mid-Day Snack

gaga vogue but showstudio midday.jpgGet Involved: Though there are a handful of dissenters, the relationship between fashion and Gaga isn’t waning. You can play, too. Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben (who’s worked on Gareth’s films) are asking for your video submissions based on The Apocalypse to play on her tour. {ShowStudio}

Red Rover, Red Rover: Celine’s landed at Dover Street Market, Phoebe Philo’s Celine that is. Who says Spring 2010 can’t debut in Fall 09? Phoebe even helped design the airy space to house her collection. {Dazed}

Got It: After last year’s Hilary Clinton/Vogue fight, Jonathan Van Meter finally got his chance to profile the now Secretary of State. Annie Leibovitz photographed her in the White House, so gowns. {Vogue}

Nick Knight, How Do We Love Thee?

NEWnickknight4_edited-1.jpgLet us count just five of the ways…

1. Your new retrospective book, Nick Knight, is phenomenally gorgeous. (The publisher sent us a copy but you can buy it starting on October 27th for $75, which is actually not a bad deal at all.)

2. Picking out which smattering of pictures to scan was incredibly hard but really fun. Thanks for making our morning so much better.

3. We forgot how much we truly died over that 2000 Dior campaign with a dirt-covered Angela Lindvall. Love, love, love.

4. You can do super high concept and impeccably simple equally well. What a gift.

5. SHOWstudio is totally badass and changing the industry in important and innovative ways.

Just keep doing what you’re doing. Thanks!

A few more of our favorite shots from the book after the jump. (UPDATE: We had to switch out a few of our scans due to some copyright issues…sorry!)

The Kids Are(n’t) Alright

kate hudson bazaar shoot.jpgThis picture landed in my inbox because of the Bally bag Kate Hudson’s holding - which is cute - but I’m writing about it because of the kid.

It’s from the set of a shoot for Harper’s Bazaar (I swear we’re not trying to belabor our Bazaar feelings; it just keeps coming up) in which she’s modeling not just the latest fashion, but also her five-year-old son, Ryder.

The kid looks adorable, but it’s jarring to see him voluntarily put in front of the camera when so many people - famous people - complain about media attention toward their children. It’s something we touched on last year when Natalia Vodianova dragged her entire clan into the pages of Vogue and something we thought about again when Angela Lindvall posed with her kids in British Vogue and then gave her son a starring role in her Gap ad.

Is it okay because it’s a controlled environment, unlike the paparazzi on the sidewalk? Because they’re still kids either way, and they’re not the ones choosing to model, their parents just happen to be really, really pretty. Are we nuts? Or would you, too, prefer your fashion editorials without a side of child?

Our Time in Edun

angelalindvallforeduntshirt.JPGAngela Lindvall has long been doing the green thing and the charity thing (with her Collage Foundation.)

Now she’s collaborating with Yoox.com and Bono and Ali Hewson’s Edun Live on a t-shirt that will be the first to launch a series called “ever.green”, featuring different eco-friendly tees designed by a variety of celebs.

Angela’s goes on sale on Monday and a percentage of the proceeds will go to Green Cross International (which we had no idea was founded by Mikhail Gorbachev!)

The model says of her design, “My shirt was created from the shadows of trees. Our shadow side is what sometimes pushes us to grow.”

And we’ll just leave it at that and let you ponder away.

Paul & Joe's Fake Fur, Fake Fashion

paul&joe aw09 .JPGI do love Paul & Joe.

Sophie Albou’s clothes are always cute and relatively affordable, her Target collection was a hit and I usually linger over the summer dresses on Net-a-Porter - but when you throw them onto Angela Lindvall and Eniko Mihalik and Jourdan Dunn and put them on a runway under bright lights, yikes.

Her Fall 09 collection included a couple of jumpsuits that looked like pajamas and a Pepto pink halter version. There were fringed shirts tucked into white jeans with over-the-knee boots - in pink. There was, seriously, a fox stole with the head still on that had been dyed turquoise and bedazzled around the mouth. The show closed with a handful of sequined minis, or fabric printed to look like sequins, that were so tiny I was afraid someone’s bottom was going to pop out in Amy Astley’s face.

But it’s the first time I’ve seen Paul & Joe on a runway, so maybe when I see it in a store, without that terrifying fox stole, we can forget this one morning in Paris.

Missing Persons Report: Gemma?

img revamps their site.jpgIMG’s changed their website.

We’re kind of indifferent to colors and fonts, but we’re enthralled with their new “Welcome to the World of Beautiful People” video.

Before, one was greeted with an almost perfect trifecta - Kate Moss, Daria Werbowy and Gemma Ward - now you get more, but one less.

The black and white slideshow gives screen time to Naomi, Hilary Rhoda, Stephanie Seymour (in that ridiculous POP come-back shoot), Heidi Mount, Lara Stone and Angela Lindvall, but where oh where did Gemma go?

Just because she’s disappeared from life and runways and campaigns and everything but The Black Balloon doesn’t mean she’s lost her modeling spot.

Does it?

Would You Wear

Would You Wear Nakey Pants?

ali michael at paul smith.jpgTo be perfectly honest, the thought of runways kind of makes me nauseous.

I’ve spent the past four days perfectly Fashion Week free - but I can’t get sheer pants out of my head.

Out of all the transparent whatevers this season - dresses, tops, head gear, etc. - barely-there pants might be the thing that kills the trend dead in its tracks, or they might be the one thing we’re still semi-interested since everything on the racks requires specific underpinnings anyway.

But you can’t just throw a slip underneath, or a cardigan on top, and call it a day. Do you wear boy-shorts like at Erin Fetherston? A bodysuit a la Ali Michael at Paul Smith? Nude Hanky Pankys from Temperley?

I’m not sure what Angela Lindvall wore under her jumpsuit at Stella, but I do remember thinking how strange it was that the jumpsuit started out solid on top and became sheer on the bottom.

So we want to know, if you could wear sheer pants without looking like Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeannie, would you?

Fashion + Dinosaurs = Fun

angela lindvall eco chic.jpgOne of the best show’s during Fall 08 Fashion Week was Shalom Harlow’s Earth Pledge. The supermodel culled together the cream of the designer and model crop to show off a series of stunning, eco-friendly outfits.

This year’s Fashion-Cares-About-The-Environment event will take place at the Museum of Natural History on September 4th. The Angela Lindvall hosted runway show doubles as the launch of the Be Eco-Chic campaign.

Donna Karan, Ralph Rucci and Vena Cava are a few of the designer’s showing looks modeled by Alek Wek, Lauren Hutton, Alexandra Richards, Patti Hansen and “a smattering of TV stars” according to WWD.

Everyone should show at museums - they really make the best venues - but we will miss Shalom.

Vuitton Takes The Kate?

normal_Kate moss-dior_fw2005-kate-moss_001.jpg After Louis Vuitton’s Paris show, rumors swirled that their Spring ‘08 ads would return from starlets to super models.

We haven’t seen the new shots yet, but we heard a fun rumor tonight that makes us hope it’s true:

That Kate Moss has returned to Vuitton, after a hiatus of several years.

Naomi Campbell won’t be joining her, although that would be amazing. Instead, we hear Claudia Schiffer and Angela Lindvall will be part of the Vuitton power package.

We’ve also heard word of a Stephanie Seymour booking, though that seems to be wishful thinking… much like the idea that those Richard Price bags will be available if you’re not Lucy Liu, or someone who can name-drop them on Gossip Girl

Angela Lindvall: Back to IMG

she's baaaaack.jpg
We’re not allowed to say how we know this, but we can promise that Angela Lindvall is back at IMG Models.

After working with the agency for 10 years, she briefly decamped to One in 2005.

It’s worth noting that Angela is one of the rare American models right now, and also that she’s (gasp) 27 and a mother of two boys - both things that make her something of a mannequin rock star in our book.

Angela is the current face of Zara, but we expect she’ll score. even bigger campaigns for Spring ‘08…

After all, IMG is sending her out on the runways with the rest of their pretty posse next week, and she’s too gorgeous not to get booked… and booked… and booked.

Plaid About You

vs plaid.jpg
One of the silliest parties of the year is Dressed To Kilt, a scotch-fueled bash that celebrates New York Tartan Week.

The highlight of the evening is a kilt fashion show, where mildly famous men and women parade in front of an actually famous front row (last year: Vivienne Westwood; this year: Sean Connery and Donald Trump). And when the runway lights up this year, it’ll be hotter than ever before:

We hear Victoria’s Secret will replicate the “Highland Romance” section of their famous catwalk, where models like Gisele and Caroline Trentini dutifully strutted in plaid lingerie.

Ms. Bunchen won’t be at Dressed to Kilt, but runway models for the April 2nd party include brainy bombshell Ivanka Trump, former hobbit Billy Boyd, and Tinsley Mortimer, who is listed on the invitation as a “designer and spokesperson.”

We wonder if any of them will wear Angela Lindvall’s old outfit (pictured at right) in the show.
