Real or Rubbish: There’ve been a few whispers suggesting that once Condé Nast finishes their 25% cuts, they’ll bring Elle on board from Hachette. In that case, does Condé own every mainstream fashion magazine? And imagine a holiday party at which Katie Grand, Anna Wintour and Joe Zee all answer to the same boss. {FWD}

The new J.Crew catalog just arrived in our office, sandwiched in between invites and barely worth a second glance until we noticed they’d snagged Lauren Hutton for the cover.

They’ve been putting their own employees to modeling work on their website for the past couple of months and riding the gigantic wave of Obama publicity — apparently saving their pennies for Lauren who looks, well, kind of ravishing.

The model/actress is keeping up with the supers revival, this marks her third campaign alongside The Row and Mango - and J.Crew’s first use of a household name (unless you’re talking our household in which Anouck, Cintia and Stam definitely count).

Question is, do we want that trench because it’s perfect or do we want the trench because Lauren makes it look perfect?

For those taken with the ka-pow of colors on the London runways this season, or with Jazzi’s adept roundup of them, maybe you want to think about this:

J. Crew’s latest merino dress, on sale for $175.

We’re a little shocked to see it at the preppy chain store, since it looks a little bit like a graffiti child’s scribbles after ice cream cake, but it’s crazy and fun, and could be rocked very well with some simple tights and heels.

Weirdly, Anouck Lepere might look a bit too sweet to pull it off (she’s the model wearing it here), but the dress captures the vivid explosion of pattern and color that rushed through London Fashion Week. It’s not as expensive as those clothes will be, and you can have it now instead of in August / September.

Sounds like a good deal to us.

This season, she’s mugging for La Redoute.

After all, their guest designer - and special Lilly wrangler - is Christian Lacroix.

Is his red ruffled trench a realistic look for Fall?

Maybe not, but it certainly hints at Lacroix’s childhood obsession: Matadors.
