Mid-Day Snack

JohnGallianoAW0910-Linda.jpgLovely Linda: The supermodels of our teen years are killing it this season on the campaign front. Evangelista and Galliano can really never go wrong as far as we’re concerned. {SassyBella}

Lend A Hand: The LOVE blog is reporting that photographer Corinne Day is very, very sick and in need of some super expensive medical treatment, so they’re selling a limited edition Kate Moss print (that’s too NSFW for even us to run on the home page) There are only 500 available. Do get well soon, Corinne! {LOVE}

Ew, Ew, Ew: In case you didn’t believe us about how douche-y those Fashion Meets Finance events are, maybe you’ll believe the Paper of Record. We’re just going to go back into our happy places where things such as this don’t exist. {NY Times}

Luella to Urban Outfitters

luella for urban bag.jpgHave you ever heard that saying, “champagne taste on beer money?”

We think that must be tagged on the wall of the Urban Outfitters meeting room, because they keep getting normally high price-commanding designers to make cute and (more) affordable versions of their aesthetic for their stores.

First, it was Bing Bang with Bee 23, in stores this Fall. Then, they announced a cheaper range from Erickson Beamon, available right now in the UK.

And now? A line from Luella, in UK stores this month (and hopefully in US stores soon after), which already seems to resemble Luella’s regular accessories range also in stores this month.

Vogue UK tells us to expect “paisley print prom dresses, gypsy embroidered shirts, striped Ts and studded clutches,” but we’re betting there’ll be some stiff navy blazers with notched collars and bright yellow piping (maybe with studs for cufflinks) in there, too…

Fashion Week

Lizzie Fortunato + VPL = Fashion Week!

Lizzie FortunatoOMG, is it Fashion Week already?

Mercifully, no, but preparations are definitely underway.

The latest runway anticipation is Lizzie Fortunato Jewelry, who sort of came from nowhere (okay, from a dorm room at Duke University) and quickly got the attention of the fashion pack with their bold and crafty necklaces.

After meeting with several CFDA-nodded designers, we hear the pair decided to team with VPL by Victoria Bartlett for their Spring ‘09 show in September.

Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs’ jeweled partner-in-crime, Anna Sheffield of Bing Bang, just revealed her own fine jewelry line, which charges $3000+ for the opportunity to look like Winona Ryder.

Love it.

Erickson Beamon to Urban Outfitters

erickson beamon for urban.jpgIt looks like Urban Outfitters thinks we all need inexpensive versions of expensive jewelry for this year -

Last month, UO announced that it would exclusively sell a lower-priced line from Bing Bang, to be called Bee 23, starting this Fall.

Now, Erickson Beamon’s revealed that their own more affordable line will be available in Urban stores first, as soon as the end of the month, in the UK.

The Erickson Beamon line will range from £88 to £288, making it by far the most expensive jewelry to ever hit Urban Outfitters, ever, even though it looks a bit like the work of a BeDazzler and hot glue gun, at left (though we think for Urban Outfitters, that’s actually kind of cute.)

Let’s hope Bee 23 is more in line with UO’s general prices.

Bing Bang to Urban Outfitters

bing bang chain necklace.jpgOne of our favorite jewelry makers, Anna Sheffield, is expanding her company.

Her line, Bing Bang, is now going to sort of be available at Urban Outfitters.

She’s producing a lower-priced line, called Bee 23, exclusively for Fall that college girls might actually be able to afford now.

According to WWD, the move is meant to make her chain necklaces and pyramid stud earrings accessible to new (read: younger) customers without lowering the cache of Bing Bang, which is usually sold in places like Barneys.

No word on where she got the name (we’ll be sure to ask her later today), but we’re hoping it means a Teen Vogue spread…

Inside The Designer’s Studio: Bing Bang

bing bang earrings.jpgThe explosion of pyramid studs and chunky chains over the past few years may have some people surprised, but not Anna Sheffield.

The sculptor-turned-designer runs the jewelry label Bing Bang, whose textured metal pieces have been seen on the runways for Marc Jacobs, Phillip Lim, and Lutz + Patmos.

In the process, her home-hewed style of mixing metals, jagging edges, and studding even the most expensive of jewels to look like motorcycle dowries has become something of an industry standard - how many cleeted bags got sacked on the Burberry and Balenciaga catwalk for Fall?

Now Anna’s moved into making her own handbags, as seen on Claudia Schiffer, and designing a new collection for Fall ‘08. This year, she was nominated for the CFDA Swarovski Award for Accessories. Next year, maybe she’ll win an Oscar.

Okay, maybe not - but she’ll probably gain a good group of girls, sick of their status bags but still needing something stamped by the fashion packs as “approved.” Plus, she admits in her interview that she used to mangle her Barbies - a style soul mate, indeed.
