Flight of the Fashions

catherine deneuve for louis vuitton.jpgMaybe it’s because not long ago this time of year meant spring break, or maybe it’s that Vogue Italia spread we posted yesterday, either way, we’re dying for a vacation.

With a vacation comes outfits and the hotly debated question, “What does one wear on the plane?”

Every magazine in the world’s told us to wear comfy pants, head-to-toe black, boyfriend jeans etc. all covered up with a blanket posed as a scarf, but when we get to the airport we either see sweats or diamonds, with little in between.

Obviously an outfit’s partly determined by the destination, who’s waiting at the gate and probably the class listed on your ticket, but how do you decide what to wear on the runway? If you’re reading this you probably aren’t of the Juicy demographic and you can’t all be toting your magazines in a Birkin.

So, what are you wearing?

Adventures in Copyright

2.55 * 2

chanel topshop aic.jpgOkay, so we know the Chanel 2.55 bag has been ripped off a thousand times on Canal Street, but we never thought a legitimate retailer would go near it.

We should’ve known better.

Topshop’s quilted cross body bag is made of 100% Polyurethane (google it, we did) yet still costs a kind of ridiculous $50. So, it must be especially well stitched, right? You’re not paying for the creative vision, because, seriously, everything from the quilting to the shape to the white and gold chain strap and the front closure screams Chanel.

It’s just two C’s short of being a flagrant rip-off.

Why would Topshop even bother copying such an iconic and recognizable design when they have a bajillion designers at their fingertips? It’s like J.Crew making a Fendi Spybag or H&M trying their hand at the Birkin.

There are some things that you just don’t mess with.

Fashion Is Fun

Madonna Really Does Love Fashion

madonna with goyard background pull.jpgMadonna has been one of fashion’s most fickle friends; all too ready
to call Jean Paul Gaultier or Olivier Theyskens when she feels like donning couture, but more often than not trudging around in track suits and baseball caps.

But in her new-ish “Give it 2 me” video, fashion seems once more to be on her mind. Madge dances around and goes on and on and on in front of a chevron pattern suspiciously like the one that covers Goyard’s signature luggage. Ok, it’s upside down, but come on.

All the while, Pharrell is playing with his much blogged about purple crocodile man-Birkin.

But given his allegiance to Vuitton, we’re surprised they don’t writhe around in front of a monogram canvas.

Go figure.
